Hi,

I am in the process of applying online for a Parent/Grandparent Super Visa for my dad who lives in India. My dad is 78 years old, and has never visited Canada before. I have lived here since 1989, and have been a citizen since 1995.

(Note: it's entirely possible I'm asking common questions that have been answered elsewhere - but since I have been unable to find exactly the information I need using the search feature, I'd be grateful for any links to existing posts covering this info. Thanks in advance!)
  • Do I need to create a MyCIC account for my dad? Or can I use my own? If my dad needs his own account, can I create one for him, or is that something he needs to do from India?
  • Can I submit a IMM5476 Use of a Representative form *on his behalf*, or does he have to sign it himself?
  • What kind of proof of medical insurance is required? Does he have to show that he has already purchased it? His dates are subject to getting the visa approved, so it's a bit difficult to purchase the insurance ahead of time. We were hoping that he could travel late July (around the 19-20) 2018. Should he go ahead and purchase the insurance before applying?
  • What kind of proof of "income" does he need to provide? My dad is retired.
  • If I am applying on his behalf, do I need to send the letter of invitation to my father by (registered?) mail and have him send it back to me? Or can I write the letter (as a electronic document such as PDF or Word) and include it in the application itself?
  • I have already completed the following forms (on his behalf):
    • IMM 5257 Application For Visitor Visa (Temporary Resident Visa)
    • IMM 5645 Family Information
    • IMM 5475 Authority To Release Personal Information To A Designated Individual
    • IMM 5676 Use Of A Representative
  • I have a copy of my 2017 T4 as proof of income. Do I also need a bank statement?

Thanks!

Hi,

Do I need to create a MyCIC account for my dad? Or can I use my own? If my dad needs his own account, can I create one for him, or is that something he needs to do from India?
A new online account for your dad. It's something you can do.

Can I submit a IMM5476 Use of a Representative form *on his behalf*, or does he have to sign it himself?
He needs to sign it + scan/email it to you.

What kind of proof of medical insurance is required?
Super visa insurance coverage of minimum CAD 100,000 purchased from a Canadian insurance company. It is mandatory to include evidence of this with the super visa application.

Does he have to show that he has already purchased it?
Yes

His dates are subject to getting the visa approved, so it's a bit difficult to purchase the insurance ahead of time. We were hoping that he could travel late July (around the 19-20) 2018. Should he go ahead and purchase the insurance before applying?
Yes, before applying for the super visa. The insurance coverage could begin from the intended date of his visit.

What kind of proof of "income" does he need to provide? My dad is retired.
His bank balance + financial investments + dividends + rental income + pension, etc.

If I am applying on his behalf, do I need to send the letter of invitation to my father by (registered?) mail and have him send it back to me? Or can I write the letter (as a electronic document such as PDF or Word) and include it in the application itself?
Signed by you. PDF

I have already completed the following forms (on his behalf)
IMM 5257 Application For Visitor Visa (Temporary Resident Visa
IMM 5645 Family Informatio
IMM 5475 Authority To Release Personal Information To A Designated Individua
IMM 5676 Use Of A Representative
You're probably missing out on other documents. Do post the list of documents you will be submitting (Host and Visitor).

I have a copy of my 2017 T4 as proof of income. Do I also need a bank statement?
You must include a copy of your employment letter + NOA (for the last couple of years) + bank statement + any financial investments.

Basically, you need to prove you meet/exceed LICO to be able to financially support your dad's visit
