I recently became a PR a couple of weeks ago. I am wondering how I am supposed to get my health card? I thought once I became a PR it would be 3 mos from that day that I would get health insurance, but I'm reading that I have to apply? I havent gotten my PR card yet -- is that needed for applying for OHIP? I'm not sure if I have to wait for my PR card to arrive, and/or what I need to do.

You need to apply for OHIP at any Service Ontario office, anytime during your first 3 months after landing as a PR. You don't need the physical PR card, just the COPR will suffice for proof of PR status. But you do also need a proof of residence as per the specific list of what docs you need to bring.

There is no rush to apply, anytime during initial 3 months is fine.

Read the OHIP website. There is a very specific list of documents they will accept that prove your residence. You must have 1 of the exact items from "List 2 – Proof of Residency in Ontario" here: http://www.forms.ssb.gov.on.ca/mbs/...tFileAttach/014-9998E-82~5/$File/9998-82E.pdf
