Hello Everyone,

I’m in the process of applying for Canadian citizenship and noticed that my Ontario health card has expired. I’ve already submitted a renewal application, but I anticipate it may take up to a month or more to receive the new card.

Regarding the application requirements for Personal ID #2, the options listed are:

  • Driver’s licence
  • Health insurance card
  • Age of majority card
  • Senior citizen identification card
Since I don’t have a driver’s licence, I’m considering using my Ontario Photo ID Card as an alternative. Could anyone confirm whether this would be accepted, given the listed options?

I’d greatly appreciate any insights or advice from those who’ve been through a similar situation.

Thank you in advance!

Yes, it's the exact substitute for driver's license (it used to be known as the Age of Majority card, in Ontario at least). The entire purpose of the Ontario Photo ID Card (and equivalent in other provinces) is to serve as ID for those who do not have driver's licenses - and indeed in most provinces you're not allowed to have both at the same time.
