Biometrics are compulsory for applying for OCI from this month. There was no provision in March 2026.

Oops, it's my bad. It is a typo. I applied on Apr-22-2026 and they didn't take my biometrics. Anyone in similar situation? Pls help. Below is the updated details.

My spouse and I applied for OCI at Toronto BLS in-person on Apr-22-2026. However, they didn't take our biometrics.

Is required and anyone give biometrics who applied after Apr 5th as per below info showing in BL website?

Important notice from Consulate General of India, Toronto and Vancouver; High Commision of India, Ottawa. OCI applications in Canada from 5th April, 2026 onwards, must be submitted in person at BLS Centres as Biometrics have to be provided. OCI applications by post will not be accepted

Yes because that's where the application form was filled/generated and it doesn't show any status yet. Did you give biometrics?

I am from the era of no biometric. If it shows as acknowledged then you are good, else they might email you to give it.

Hi! I’ll soon be submitting my OCI application in person at BLS Toronto and had a few questions:

1. Do I need to submit physical photos with the OCI application, or are the uploaded digital photos enough?
2. For the physical submission, I know the photocopies must be self‑attested. But do I also need to self‑attest the documents before uploading them online?
3. I’m applying based on my previous Indian citizenship. In this case, is a birth certificate required?

For OCI update due to passport renewal, do we get an email acknowledgement online on the OCI portal (confirmation of in progress update) for us to travel with and show to immigration authorities?

I visited BLS Toronto to apply for my surrender certificate this morning. Saw a few folks being sent to a room with sign that said 'biometrics'.

Overheard some talk about this being new for everyone. So I'm assuming the biometrics part / new process, has kicked in as of May.
