OCI process

Just received an email today from the consulate general of Vancouver.

In your application form you have mentioned – “Unemployed” in Occupation column.

What is the present status?

still unemployed please provide details of your educational qualification, old Employment details and confirmation that you have never worked for Armed forces/Para-military/Police /Security /intelligence organization.

Reply must be sent in response to this mail (as an pdf attachment) so that it can be linked and uploaded to your application.


What kind of old employment details are they asking for? Like paystubs, contract or something like that? I can’t get a letter from that company anymore as that company no longer exists.

Also how do I confirm I never worked in paramilitary. Is there a form I need to fill or just a self declaration will do?

Today I saw my OCI status changed to OBJECTION

Absolutely no idea what went wrong in 24 hours. Yesterday morning I received an email to upload documents to confirm my employment status is still unemployed. They asked for educational qualifications, previous job history and confirmation I have not served in any armed forces or intelligence agencies.

So later in the evening I uploaded my masters degree, a self declaration that I was still unemployed and work contract basis and waiting for my next contract. I uploaded my deal memo of my previous job from August 2024. I explained in my self declaration that job ended in April 2025. I also included a letter from my union.

I later uploaded another self declaration that I never worked or was a member of any armed forces, paramilitary, security or intelligence organization. All these documents were sent as pdf documents in response to the email. Woke up this morning and saw the OCI website update as objection. I still did not receive an official confirmation but only status shows as objection. I’m super frustrated with this entire process.

I already went through the whole premium lounge nonsense with BLS and after more than a month and I receive this email to upload documents and notice the objection status. How are people getting approved for OCI? I’m deciding to just give up on this whole OCI process.

The whole process took 7 weeks 5 days. I paid for courier service so BLS mailed it , there is also an option to pick up I believe.

Once they check your document, your OCI application processing should start again. As its with consulate things do move.

All I can tell you is that Occupation is printed on the OCI so they are likely trying to not write Unemployed in yours and asked you for the documents. Not sure what you listed in the form.

I want to apply Overseas Citizenship India card for my US born child in Canada (Toronto)
Both parents have Indian Passport and Canadian PR.

CGI website ask for following doc
"# In case of foreign passport i.e., other than Canadian please provide the following two additional documents:

(i) Status in Canada (PR / Work Permit / Study Permit / Visa)"

My question is what document can I show for my child's status in Canada ?

-Since US citizens do not need visa on passport, our child simply entered Canada without Visa (status is visitor)
-Child does not have/need work or study permit
-PR application is just submitted

Any tips/thoughts will be of great help

They should issue Visitor record document to the child at the border, If the child is coming to Canada for more than six months. You should use that document. If it was not issued at the boarder, you should apply for that status within Canada, along with the permanent residence application, I believe.

Please guide me. What documents we need to upload while submitting online application. Do we need to upload self attested documents or originals scanned? There are three categories 1. Proof of current Citizenship 2. Proof of address 3.evidence of Indian origin (I think). Do we need to upload more documents under each category?

application date : How come the applicant date of birth is after application date, this is very strange. This is now creating tense, can you share please some suggestoin on what we do. we paid premium services BLS at brampton
