What did you use to check your application status? I tried using the receipt number but it doesn't work ... the wait is nerve wrecking....guess will have to wait until Wednesday

The receipt number only works once the sponsorship is approved, so it's kind of useless ( because then you also have the File number and UCI etc).
Some people have already a UCI from previous dealings with CIC (visa etc), so that might be the reason.

Indeed it is - and that's only stage 1... I don't want to discourage you, but stage 1 is easier than stage 2 I think... because in Stage 1 you have at least an idea ( CIC website) where they are at... where stage 2 is no communication from the VO...

The only thing that gets better in stage 2: you have already passed stage 1 so it gives confidence, and also by then CIC has already trained applicants and sponsors on being patient!

Hi everyone!!!

I am a newbie here....

had sent application on 14th Nov. 2012
App received: 15th Nov.
Med's done: 12th Oct.
AOR: 26th Nov.

Got a letter on 6th Dec. that the file has been sent to the visa office abroad for processing.

Current Status: "We received your application for permanent residence on November 15, 2012.

Medical results have been received."

What 's next to happen ???

Hey CanTurk... i actually had no idea i could even check my application status yet, cause i thought you couldnt do it til you got stage one approval.... but on the CIC website it says My online services and when you get there it asks what kind of application you submittied (spousal sponsorship) and after that it just asks for your client ID and your name, date of birth etc... idk if it works for everyone though

AOR Is when you get acknoledgment from CIC about recieving your file (not yet approval) with the file number and UCI (they write the date that they recived the file). Not evevybody gets that. some get it on the actual sponsorship approval letter.

the ecas doesn't get update immedietly, mine was available only a week after I got the AOR.

I had submitted my applciation for my US citizen spouse on 16th October,they started processing on November 2,2012 and I got the letter from Missisauga of first stage approval on November 7,2012 which is just 5 days after they started processing.How early should I now expect to get the second stage approval ?

The processing time for the Ottawa visa office is officially 12 months, but that's probably quite a bit longer than most of us will have to wait. You can add yourself to the spreadsheet (listed in my signature).

OK gang, got our AOR in the last week or two and today we received our email saying we got approved for Stage 1!! Woot! One down, one to go! Add to spreadsheet please?!! I'm thinking from when I sent in the application to them and today was a month or less? Gotta check the spreadsheet, but it seemed pretty quick, I've heard American/Canadian couples get approved faster cause we're neighbors which I'm hoping is true, I miss my wife!

Sent in our application on Nov 13th, 2012 Got my stage 1 AOR on Nov 28th, and today Dec 11th we got approval for Stage 1 if you could please update us on the spreadsheet, thanks!
