I am a Canadian citizen, and i sponsored my USA born son. On 7 February, I got the AOR email.
Today I get an email saying that a refund in the amount of CAD 490 has been initiated.
I didn't cancel or withdraw, they don't give a reason - just generic contact information and change of address details in the email.
WHY is this happening???
Does this mean the application is rejected?

I sponsored my wife and first son, and that went well, i easily make more than the minimum required.

Has this happened to anyone else and if so, why??

Your son is a Canadian through you.

If his son was a Canadian he wouldnt need to sponsor him...
I guess he paid the RFPR fees and got it back as its not required
He is Canadian but I guess he could be naturalized Canadian under the new rule his son would not acquire Canadian citizenship.

Thanks guys for the answers.

When i initiated the process in late novemeber i was still a permanent resident.
I became a naturalised citizen in mis december.
So i assumed that my son(born in August) would not be a cotizen through me and hence needed sponsorship.

Going to the helpcenter website, i am led to believe that the reason the refund is being initiated is either because it doesn’t apply to a 6 month old baby. or the application is rejected.

Either way i have emailed the IRCC site and will wait for further correspondence.

I am stunned to think of the possibility thay the application could be rejected. Especially the optics of uniting a 6month old baby( US citizen) with his parents and brother in Canada.

So fingers crossed for now.

You don't need the fee for children under 21 only $150 for the process.
