I understand how stressful this wait must be, especially after more than 20 weeks and even after your MP intervened. When an MP contacts IRCC, the visa officer usually reviews the file and may send a note to the processing centre, but unfortunately it does not guarantee immediate action. The message your MP received — that the officer sent a note regarding your passport request — is generally a positive sign, meaning your file has likely been looked at and may be in the final stages. However, it can still take a few weeks for the processing centre to issue the actual PPR email, depending on workload, background checks, or internal queue delays.
Since it has already been two weeks after the MP’s intervention, you can politely follow up with the MP’s office again and ask if they can request an updated status. At the same time, you may also submit a webform to IRCC asking for clarification on the status of your passport request, mentioning that your MP previously contacted them and that you were informed a note was sent to the processing centre. Keep the message short and respectful.
At this stage, delays of a few weeks after MP inquiry are unfortunately common, but the information you received is not negative — it usually means your application is moving toward finalization.

Hi @Miss bee , I’m an October 2024 - Non Express ONIP applicant and there has been no update since my medicals passed on September , 2025. It has now been 16 months, and I’m not sure what to do. When I check the processing times on the IRCC website, it shows about 3 more months remaining, but when I applied, the processing time was 16 months. I called IRCC and the agent said information sharing is in progress. My PR journey started about 2.5 years ago when I received my nomination through the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program, and I feel like I’ve tried everything without any progress. Could you please advise whether I should raise a webform, request GCMS notes, or approach my MP?

Hi dear , I am also october 11 th 2024 applicant under employer job offer stream same thing with me no update after medical I also don’t know what to do I saw that decmber applicants getting their Final decisions but we are still waiting its so frustrating really please advise something

Since you applied under a Non-Express Entry PNP (paper-based) stream for New Brunswick in December 2024 and IRCC only started processing in October 2025, your timeline is actually quite typical for this category. Paper-based PNP applications processed by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada usually take around 18 to 24 months (sometimes longer) from the date they receive the full application. Because you completed biometrics and submitted the additional documents in December 2025, you are now in the final assessment stages (eligibility, background, security, and medical review if not already finalized). If everything is complete and there are no complications, many applicants in similar situations receive a decision within 4 to 8 months after biometrics, though it can vary depending on background checks and overall processing volume. Realistically, you could expect a decision sometime between spring and late summer 2026, but this is only an estimate. If your medicals are passed and background check moves to “in progress,” that’s usually a good sign you are getting closer to final decision.
Hey! @Miss bee thanks a lot for your quick response! I really appreciate it.
It wasn’t (paper based) it was online but Non-express entry.
They asked me for additional information that was uploaded in December. My PR portal is doesn’t have a lot of information and it doesn’t allow me to see anything else. I think I have to request de GMCS

Yes, exactly. I usually notice that updates happen on a monthly basis. However, after the September batch, they seem to be picking random dates. I understand that this may depend on background checks, but at least previously the updates were somewhat date-wise. For October, I haven’t seen any updates except for a few cases . I’m not sure what I should do at this point.

Since your medicals passed in September 2025 and IRCC has confirmed that “information sharing” is in progress, this usually means background/security checks are still ongoing, which can take unpredictable time and is often outside normal processing stages. If the current processing time on the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada website shows 3 more months remaining, technically your application is still within their posted timeline, even though it has already exceeded the 16 months that were listed when you applied (processing times are dynamic and change over time). At this stage, raising a webform won’t harm your application, but it may only result in a generic response if your file is still within processing times. Requesting GCMS notes is a good step because it will give you a clearer picture of what stages are completed (eligibility, criminality, security) and whether anything is pending or flagged; this is often the most useful next move. Approaching your MP is generally more effective when the file is outside normal processing times, but you can still contact them if you feel the delay is excessive—just keep expectations realistic, as MPs cannot speed up security checks. Practically speaking, I would suggest ordering GCMS notes first, wait to see what they show, and if your application goes beyond the current posted processing time, then escalate through a webform and your MP.
