Hello everyone,

I would like to know about your experiences regarding the background check (criminality/security) stage for a Permanent Residence application through the New Brunswick Provincial Nominee Program (PNP), outside Express Entry.

Here is my situation:

  • Application received by IRCC: May 19, 2025
  • Biometrics completed: August 15, 2025
  • Current status: “We are processing your background check”
  • No additional document requests or medical exams so far.

I’m trying to understand how long this stage usually takes, especially for applicants under the New Brunswick PNP or other non-Express Entry PNP streams.
Your feedback would really help me estimate the expected timeline before the final decision.

Thank you very much and good luck to everyone with your applications!

Can anyone clarify, I am inland my spouse is outland so How will this work? Will they get a PPR first or both of us will get P1?
@Miss bee Do you have ay idea about this?

Hello @everyone,

I submitted my PR application in Feb 2025, and requested spouse addition in May 2025. I submitted all spouse addition documents including IMM forms in May 2025.

Till not there has been no updates, my spouse is still not added to my GC key.

Is there anyone who is in similar situation please share your timeline. How much time IRCC currently taking to add spouse in existing PR application. My application type is Express Entry PNP.

If you also requested spouse addition in your PR application and got your spouse added to your file please mention your timeline.

Thanks

@Miss bee Do you know any similar cases who got their spouse added recently or timeline

Thanks for help.

Hi @Miss bee
I got Fd on 1st October and COPR details on tracker but no PPR yet.

Please suggest what i have to do ?
Thanks
This situation is very common, especially for people applying outside Canada. Sometimes, there’s a short delay (a few days to a couple of weeks) between the COPR being generated and the actual PPR or portal instructions being sent. Wait a few business daysMany applicants receive the PPR email within 3–10 business days after FD/COPR details appear.Delays can occur due to VO (Visa Office) workload or system batch processing.

Based on recent experiences shared by other applicants, IRCC can take anywhere from 2 to 6 months—sometimes even longer—to process a spouse addition, depending on the visa office and current workload. In most cases, IRCC reviews the new documents, updates your file internally, and only then adds the spouse to your portal. Once that happens, they will typically send requests for your spouse’s biometrics, medical examination, and police certificates. Because your request has been pending for several months, it’s advisable to submit an IRCC webform asking for a status update on the spouse addition. Make sure to monitor your email (including junk folders) for any new correspondence from IRCC, as further document or information requests are common at this stage. Although the delay is frustrating, it’s normal and doesn’t necessarily indicate a problem—spouse additions often take a few months to be reflected in your online application.

Hey Miss Bee. I appreciate all your answers. It helps a lot

Do all PR applications require a medical exam? Im applying through PNP inland. I submitted my biometrics about 3 months ago and I havent heard anything since then. Here's what my tracker looks like:
Hey @Miss bee

Do you mind taking a look at this timeline to see if theres any issues?

Thanks!

Yes — almost all PR applicants eventually need a medical exam, even if your tracker currently says:
“You do not need a medical exam. We will send you a message if this changes.”
That message doesn’t mean you’re exempt from doing one; it simply means IRCC hasn’t yet reached the stage where they request it. Once your eligibility or background check progresses, they’ll issue a “Medical Exam Request” letter in your account, and you’ll then need to complete an IMM 1017 (Upfront Medical Exam) at an IRCC-approved panel physician.

2. Why it hasn’t been requested yet

Given that
  • You submitted biometrics 3 months ago, and
  • Your tracker shows eligibility still under review,
…it’s quite normal that the medical exam hasn’t been triggered yet. IRCC typically requests medicals after they start or finish the eligibility review, but timelines vary widely (especially under inland PNP).

For many inland applicants in 2024–2025, the medical request comes 3–8 months after biometrics, sometimes even later.

Many applications including myself are Stuck in SS since 2023 (Almost 24 months now).
Not saying that you will be in the same backlog but trying to give you some clarification on Comprehensive SS.

Thank you very much for your reply and for sharing those details about the SS (Security Screening).
Your explanation really helps me understand the context and the possible delays during this stage.

As for my case:

  • My PR application was received by IRCC on May 19, 2025
  • Biometrics completed on August 15, 2025
  • Current status: “We are processing your background check”
  • I haven’t received any additional document requests or medical exam requests so far.

I’m hoping that my application will stay within the average processing time (around 3–6 months) and I wish you the best of luck with your case as well.
Thanks again for taking the time to share your experience — it’s really helpful for those of us still waiting for an update.

Hello @Miss bee Can you please clarify something, If I receive the portal 1 email and I am outside Canada, and I was an Inland candidate. Would IRCC issue PPR for my spouse who was already outside and never landed in Canada? If i fill the p1 or will it be after p2?

Hello everyone,

I have a couple of questions regarding changing my address after submission:

  1. Application number: The instructions mention that the application number can be found in correspondence from IRCC. However, in the only email confirming successful submission, I couldn’t find any such number. Could it be that I missed another form of confirmation from IRCC?
  2. Email field on the webform: I listed three email addresses in the application — my own, my spouse’s, and our shared one (which received the confirmation email). Which of these should be used for the “email address” field on the address change webform?
Thank you very much for your time and help!
