Hello everyone,
I'm looking for feedback from people who have recently submitted a paper Proof of Citizenship application.
My timeline:
I also consulted a Canadian immigration lawyer who indicated that 5 months without an AOR is outside the norm and suggested that I consider resubmitting the application.
One additional complication is that I reside in the United States. As I understand it, IRCC's call centre is only accessible from within Canada, so I have not been able to speak with an agent directly. This has limited me to webform inquiries, social media inquiries, and other indirect methods of contact.
Because this was a paper application, the AOR would be my first indication that the application has been opened, assessed for completeness, and entered into IRCC's system.
My main question is:
For people who have recently applied for Proof of Citizenship by paper application, is 5-6 months without an AOR currently considered normal, or would you be concerned that something may have happened to the application?
More specifically, I am trying to determine whether continued waiting is reasonable or whether resubmission should be seriously considered.

My timeline:
- Initial paper application was submitted in February 2026.
- That application was returned as incomplete approximately 5 weeks later.
- I corrected the issue and resubmitted the application.
- USPS tracking shows the corrected paper application was delivered to CPC-Sydney on 13 May 2026.
- As of today, I have not received an Acknowledgement of Receipt (AOR).
- I do not have an application number.
- I have not received a request for additional information.
- I have not received a returned application package.

For those who have recently submitted Proof of Citizenship applications:
- How long did it take to receive your AOR?
- Has anyone experienced a 5-6 month wait with no AOR, returned application, or request for additional information?
- At what point would you consider resubmitting, if at all?
