Congratulations to all updates. Slowly but surely we will all get there.

Concerning specifics on amount from IOM, No one can give u a definite amount not even IOM themselves, except they have ur full details. ( number of adults and children, specific ages of the children and ur end point) even at that, what someone paid last week will be different from what one may pay now or even next year.

They only way is to get a specific amount someone who has used them paid, then do some plus and minus to have an idea. But trust me the amount can never be the same.

Also Got my 4th line (decision made). I'm definite my pick up mail is with my agent too. Will get to know by this evening.

Congrats on the decision made notification. Cheers

We are right with our explanation but a portion is yet to be responded to either in low times or high times,is it based on a certain % or debated price comparing the economic situation as at the time of applying?
My brother. Airline prices is hard to ascertain. It may be based on different factors. Increase or reduction in prices can't be based on %, Neither is it based on the economic factor alone. I have had a situation where I had to pay an addition of $200 just within in a 3 hr period. Prices can change within an hr, day, weeks or month. This usually happens during high times.

Also prices can stay stable for a while too during low periods ie if comparing it with someone with same itinerary and family composition as u.

STILL ON IOM TICKETS @RON D75 - We know that ticket prices changes with season. All we want from seniors is - i paid xxx amount for a family of xxxx, and travel date ppppp. and de waiting period at connecting city is xxx.

We can take it up from there.

People are saying IOM is cheaper, but we need to be able to compare prices and waiting times.

% increase or decrease on the side of IOM not the airlines;how do they calculate the reduction in whatever price(s) given to them by the airline? For example, the airline gives to them the price of a family of let us say a family of 5 to be 1 million naira. What factor do they use in offering discount to we the applicants? Do they have specified % irrespective of high periods or low periods that they work with? I am just asking to know if any one is privy to this exact fact. It cannot just be that they just offer discount. There is definitely a yardstick they use.

Someone mention in the older peoples forum that he was offered 30 % discount. Can this be a standard?

You're still getting it wrong Sir. It is the airlines who give IOM discount, not IOM giving applicants discounts. IOM cannot give what they don't have so when IOM has shopped around, they let the applicant know what is available, that is, what the airlines have offered.

I suggest those who seriously want to know IOM rates to go to the Landed Naija thread, you might get past rates, that is, ticket prices applicants have paid on this thread. Some one there may respond, cheers :)

Hmmmmmm,,how are you sure that the discount is not from IOM? IOM seem to me a government institution established to help among other things to subsidize airfare for immigrating permanent residents. I think they pay certain amount to the airline making up for the discounts. There must be certain arrangement unknown to us. I wonder why airlines will just be offering discounts to a selected people without not making gains. There is definitely something unknown to us.

Based on link quoted by thebaft -

Concession Fares
What are concession fares?

Concession fares are competitive air fares with additional benefits as negotiated by IOM with a wide variety of airline partners worldwide.

What are the main benefits?

The main benefits of concession fares are:

Preferential air fares
Special individual and group booking conditions
Increased baggage entitlement
Simplified payment procedures
IOM-assisted passengers can also benefit from transit assistance at departure and arrival points and transit visa waiver arrangements at selected transit locations where these arrangements have been implemented.

What advantage do I have in using IOM transportation assistance over those of a travel agency for my resettlement or emigration?

IOM offers competitive fares, often well below or on par with locally available market fares with the added advantage of most fares being less restrictive (for instance, possibility of rebooking or even cancellation* without penalty), higher baggage allowance and transit assistance where available.

Who can benefit from IOM’s transportation assistance?

Officially recognized refugees in possession of proper documentation, migrants, students and other travellers who fall under a wide category of IOM programmes such as resettlement and returns are eligible for travel under IOM auspices on a temporary or permanent basis.

Scholarship holder programmes
Agricultural programmes
Return of Qualified Nationals
Resettlement programmes
Special assistance programmes to developing countries, including programmes of technical co-operation with governments.
Does IOM charge a service fee?

Yes, there is a service fee which varies. Please contact IOM's Operational Support Unit (OSU) at osu@iom.int.

Why are the concession fares not indicated on the IOM website?

In addition to the confidential nature of the negotiated agreements with various airlines, the fares vary according to availability of booking class, seasonality, validity and suitability of routing/itinerary.

From a specific departure point to a specific destination point, there could be a number of choices available. Please contact the OSU Unit (osu@iom.int) for the fare and routing details suitable to your location.

Can IOM assist me in securing a visa for my country of resettlement?

No, IOM-assisted passengers have to acquire their own visas and other relevant travel documentation before approaching IOM for the transportation arrangements. However in some locations and for some destinations, IOM can assist in the application documentation for a service fee.

Other than a national passport, what other type of travel documents are acceptable for travel?

Before departure, migrants and refugees must be in possession of the following documents:

Passport or Travel Document: A valid national passport or other type of travel document (e.g., ICRC or UN travel documents) on which the entry visa to the resettlement country can be affixed. In the absence of any of these documents, the concerned embassies and High Commissions may issue a travel document valid for a single journey as appropriate for their requirements.
Entry visa or permanent residence visa
Does IOM assistance include the provision of escorts for special cases?

Medical and non-medical escorts may be needed to assist in specific individual and group departures, up to the port of entry or to the final destination in the country of destination.

Non-medical cases: In some circumstances, unaccompanied minors, elderly refugees or particularly vulnerable persons may require the services of a non-medical escort. In such instances, the IOM office at the point of origin makes available an experienced staff member to accompany the refugee to the destination agreed upon with the destination country.

Medical cases: The conditions for transportation of sick and incapacitated passengers are subject to the rules and regulations of each air carrier involved. Please click here for more details on the requirements for medical cases.

What is the payment procedure?

Payments to IOM for IOM reduced fares shall be made through a bank transfer or a bank deposit. Only in countries where such bank services do not exist may the collection be made in cash.

Will IOM pay for my ticket?

No, IOM will give you access to special reduced fees but cannot pay or subsidize your journey.

Who do I contact?

The Movement Management Department (MMD) based at the IOM Headquarters in Geneva has overall responsibility for all movement aspects worldwide. Within MMD, the Operations Support Unit (OSU) is the focal point for air fares, baggage allowance, transit, airline agreements and all other transport related issues.

Requests are either dealt by OSU directly or channelled by the Unit to the concerned IOM field office.

* depends on the negotiated airline agreement conditions.

I do not agree with your statement that i am wrong that IOM is the one giving us discount. Who do we deal with? IOM or the airlines? Obviously,IOM. Who gives us the airfare in the end? Sure again,IOM.

God bless you Thebaft. I so much cherish the link you have provided. Look at one of the questions:

"Why are the concession fares not indicated on the IOM website?

In addition to the confidential nature of the negotiated agreements with various airlines, the fares vary according to availability of booking class, seasonality, validity and suitability of routing/itinerary.

From a specific departure point to a specific destination point, there could be a number of choices available. Please contact the OSU Unit (osu@iom.int) for the fare and routing details suitable to your location."

From the statement above culled out from the link,it shows that there is a negotiation which they will not disclose. I strongly believe that IOM will pay certain amount of money which is covering up for us irrespective of the fare from the airline. They will argue on our behalf and pay the hiiden amount which we can calculate from the one charged from the airfare. IOM will not come out to say that the airline has discounted for you because they did all the "dirty jobs". So,it will be mirrored as,"we have helped to discount your fare". But they must definitely cough out certain amount unknown to us.

"Established in 1951, IOM is the leading inter-governmental organization in the field of migration and works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental partners."

"IOM works to help ensure the orderly and humane management of migration, to promote international cooperation on migration issues, to assist in the search for practical solutions to migration problems and to provide humanitarian assistance to migrants in need, including refugees and internally displaced people.

The IOM Constitution recognizes the link between migration and economic, social and cultural development, as well as to the right of freedom of movement.

IOM works in the four broad areas of migration management:

Migration and development
Facilitating migration
Regulating migration
Forced migration.
IOM activities that cut across these areas include the promotion of international migration law, policy debate and guidance, protection of migrants' rights, migration health and the gender dimension of migration."
