A friend who landed November 2012, went with USD Draft from Diamond bank and it cleared 2 days after he paid into his new account in Canada. Another person I know, funded his Naira account in GTB, printed the statement and went with his GT debit card, he didnt report any issue with landing.

My conclusion, each POE officers may respond differently to new immigrants, so better to go with the options as stated on CIC website quoted below


If you are carrying more than C$10,000, tell a Canadian official when you arrive in Canada. If you do not tell an official, you may be fined or put in prison. These funds could be in the form of:

cash
securities in bearer form (for example, stocks, bonds, debentures, treasury bills) or

I guess I read on the landed thread sometime ago that it takes about 1 month for the draft to clear. Someone on the general thread also advised that one can take some cash with them to meet the initial expenses and take the rest thru bank draft. I don't like the idea of carrying large cash though as it has it's own risk!!!

My own personal opinion is to go with cash. If u have not booked ur ticket then book a week day, go to the bank during the day and withdraw ur cash, take it to the airport and exchange for dollars and fly.

My hubby went with all the POF in cash on a sunday night . He had 40% of the cash in dolls and took the test to the airport to exchange for dollars with just 50k per dollar difference in exchange rate.
No body bothered to ask him what he was carrying until he got to toronto. Even if u are asked just explain and save urself the stress that is assocciated with bank draft.

Like they say, that is my one cent advice.
