Unfortunately, "In Process" does not mean what it used to.
It used to be that if you got IP (roughly a year after sponsorship approval), it was a sign that your application was being worked on, and that DM (Decision Made) and PPR (Passport Request) were coming very soon, usually within 6 weeks. (Ours is sitting at 2.5 months though, so...)
Nowadays, the statuses are changing to In Process almost immediately after SA (sponsorship approval), which means you no longer get that heads up. You'll be completely in the dark until you get DM/PPR at the very end of the process.
Nothing changes in terms of the processing time, even though you get "In Process" earlier. All "In Process" means now is "we've received your file, and its sitting here gathering dust", instead of "we've opened your file, and have started to actually read it now". Now they don't tell you when they've opened it, only when they are finished and have made a decision. I suspect they have done this to avoid people from hounding them with MP inquiries and ATIP requests for case notes after they see the status change to IP.
The official processing time right now is 17 months, and that time starts AFTER the file reaches New Delhi. Most cases are being processed in about 12 months right now, though. I would expect at least 10 or 12 months before you hear anything. Check the 2014 spreadsheet to see some applicants' timelines.
Right now NDVO is working on files from September/October 2014, so you won't see any 2015 applicants getting DM or PPR yet. Most Sept/Oct applicants from 2014 have been getting IP (the old one) between July and August, and DM/PPR between September and October 2015. Ours is a late September file, and while we got IP in August, we haven't got DM/PPR yet...fingers crossed for early November.
So yeah, the short answer to your question is, about one year is what you can expect. If you haven't heard anything by June 2016, then you can submit an ATIP (Access to Information & Privacy Act) request to get a copy of your CIC case file notes, or ask your MP to inquire about your file.
