Hello,

I am a Canadian citizen (birth) and have been living in Thailand for almost 5 years now for work.
I met a lady fresh out of school, and we hit it off instantly. We married a few years later, and have a child (two years old tomorrow). We have been together the entire time.

I want to bring my wife and child to Canada to give them a better life (especially school for my daughter), and have some questions about our PR application process.

I worked for the same employer for over 15 years now, even though the company has changed names, and recently moved to Thailand 5 years ago (and me with it). My boss is really good, and since we are a software company, he has agreed to me going remote, and contract based instead so I can freely move back to Canada.

Since I will be remaining in Thailand through the PR process, and moving with my Family once it is complete, is there anything I need to know before hand, or foresee any difficulties? I do have a place of residence in Canada we will be moving too (namely, my parents) and will find a new place once we arrive.

My wife has no work history to mention (only helping family with their business), but does know good English (quite passable anyhow)

We will be doing the paperwork ourselves, without the aid of an Agent (at least, that is our hopes). Any advice is more than welcome!

Another question (there will probably be plenty by time my paper work is in order).

I am a Canadian Citizen, as is my child (applied for it, but will take 8 months to get the certificate, but far before the PR process is complete).

Now, on my Wife's IMM00008 form, do we have to declare our daughter as a dependent (and as such, file all the paper work for her as well). She will be traveling with us under her own Canadian passport when we leave.

Thanks again in advance for any suggestions or answers to these questions.

No your Daughter would not be included as a dependent on the IMM0008, she is a Canadian citizen, even if you havn't received her citizenship card. There is another form in the application where you would enter her the additional family I believe...

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/pdf/kits/forms/IMM0008ENU_2D.pdf
You must provide the following details about each of your family members, whether they will accompanying you to Canada or not. You must include your spouse or common-law partner, if applicable, and all your dependent children, and those of your spouse or common-law partner, who are not already permanent residents or citizens of Canada.
Since you will be remaining out of the Country during the process you should submit your intent to relocate once your spouse has received her visa. include letter from your parents saying that you will be staying with them, letter from your employer about how he has agreed to let you work remotely, airline quotes for travel to Canada, quotes from companies you might use to move your belongs into Canada, maybe inquire some realtors about rental or purchasing a house. your case looks pretty straightforward, with proofs of relationships etc, so you probably won't need an agent to help you, you can do ti yourself.
As for your wife - it doesn't really matter that she has not worked before. You will need to prove how you will provide for your family once back in Canada, but it seems that you have sorted it out with your current employer already, as well as a place to live etc, so it should be pretty straightforward.

Just put a lot of explanations on you plan to relocate to Canada so the sponsorship approval goes without troubles, and be precise in your application, and you'll be fine!

Good luck,
Sweden
