Name Problem - Strange !!! Please help

I have recently made the online submission in one university.

I was asked to put the "Family name" and "First Name"

In my passport, Surname : <Blank> and Given name: <Mayank Kumar >

I have put in the university Portal the following:

Family Name: Na <Not Applicable as system was not accepting Blank value or N/A or NA )
First Name: Mayank Kumar

I did it as per my Passport.

Now they are addressing me Dear Mr. Na,

Suggest something... from henceforth, what should i put exactly.

Does Family Name/Last name/ Surname the same thing ??

In university Portal, it is mentioned like this
Given Name/First Name :
Surname/last name:

you should Apply according to these, First Name=Mayank and SurName=Kumar......But I strongly Recommend to you that modify your passport.

Strange that your passport has no last name.

Technically, Kumar would be your last name. But then again, it could be one of those "it happens only in India" incidents.

If so, i would get your passport corrected first since this can give you problems with a lot of things in Canada too since Last Name is mandatory for almost everything and your passport will be your primary identification.

There are a number of countries where no surnames are used. Some only have 1 first name. So you leave the Surname/Family name space blank.

Agree and I have confirmed with university officials. They will do the required changes as required and they too agree that unfortunately their system does not accept Last Name/Family Name/Surname as Blank.

what if all name is Written in Last Name and First Name is Blank.
