Dear Sir/Ma,
I am James Chukwuma , a permanent resident of Canada who landed for the first time in April 26, 2013 in Toronto. I stayed for 2 months(60 days) and returned back to continue with my plastic surgeryy residency training(Medical Doctor Specialist training). I have being in Nigeria since then without being able to visit Canada due to the requirements of the training. I thought my plastic surgery residency training would end in October, 2015 but I was informed by my program director that the end of my training has be shifted to June 30 due to the frequent strike actions and political unrest in the country in 2014 and 2015.

To give further information about me, I have been offered a clinical fellowship job/training in an hospital in Canada which is expected to start in July 1st, 2016 and I have also been given a PhD admission at the University of Toronto which is expected to start in September, 2016 which I am going to run concurrently with the clinical fellowship job/training.

I want to finish my training in Nigeria, which means I have to wait till June 30, 2016 so that I can come back to Nigeria and sit for my final exam in October 15, 2016. My PR card is still valid till June 26, 2018. I have 2 children and a wife whose PR dates and circumstance is like me. My wife and children also land with me in Canada in April 26, 2013 and returned to Nigeria with me after 60 days. We have being together in Nigeria since then and we have not visited Canada since then. We all plan to return after June 30, 2016 if you permit us.

The following are my requests on humanitarian ground:

1. I request that you should permit me to stay in Nigeria till June 30, 2016 despite the fact that my permanent resident obligation demands me to return back to Canada on the June 26, 2016 in order to finish up my clinical residency training in plastic surgery. For me to fulfil my obligation as a PR I need to stay till 26th June. But for me to be able to finish up my training I have to wait till after June 30. Please on humanitarian ground permit me to stay till after June 30 in order to finish up my training in Nigeria.

2. I also want to request that I should be granted sometimes(2 weeks) to return to Nigeria in October to write my final exam which I discuss above. I request on humanitarian ground that you should permit me to be able to return to Nigeria to stay for 2 week in order to be able to do my final exam.

I will be glad if my family and I are permitted as I have discussed above on humanitarian ground.
Thank you

James

Hello everyone,

I just received a PPR e mail. I am in Toronto and wanted to know if there is anyone who completed the landing while being in Toronto? what is the procedure and which border did you use. I would appreciate your input.

Anshul
My friend's kids live in Montreal under student visa when they needed to do the landing. He just drove them through the nearest border and showed the immigration officer all the papers. The officer then noted something on their docs and he only needed to drive in a little bit and then make a U-turn to Canada territory for their landing formalities.

A friend of mine landed around 1.5 months back. Ontario. He got a contract job for 6 months in his 2nd week as Permanent Resident but he rejected it (because the job was in Calgary). Today, he pings to tell that he has got a permanent, full-time job in his own field (the position completely matches his experience). He also said the job is "well paid" (I didn't ask him how much).

He is a winner and we can be one too! Remember the lyrics in the song "I believe I can fly"!

"If I can see it, then I can be it.
If I just believe it, there's nothing to it
..
I believe I can fly.."
Thanks raj for sharing this encouraging evidence! Many a times we hear only discouraging & negative stories of a few out of thousands! You seemed like a silver lining around a cloud.

I'd like to tell the experience that one of my friends had after landing in Canada. I'd also shared this experience in another thread.

He is a computer software engineer, having around 7 - 8 years of experience. Upon arriving first time ever in Canada at Toronto, he received a job on the 7th day of his arrival. This job perfectly matched his edu & work experience, and really was well-paid. I managed somehow to ask him his salary, it was C$ 72.5k/year !!

Now, some would say he got lucky enough to get that job, but I'd say he got enough set of skills to make it.

I don't deny the fact that Canada has less opportunities for skilled workers, but at the same time we also should accept the reality that Canada DOES have ability to provide suitable opportunities to those who have enough abilities to pursue them.

He, who wants to fly, WILL find a sky! :)

Hello Experts,

I plan on completing my landing obligations for Permanent Residency in the first week of June 2017.

List of documents on hand at the airport:
1. Passport with stamped Immigrant Visa
2. COPR (Conformation of Permanent Residence)
3. POF (Recent bank statements)
4. Photos for PR Card (Same dimensions as when submitted for PPR)
5. Goods Accompanying List (Piece of paper with a list of things in the luggage)

If I have missed anything please let me know as I want this procedure to be smooth for both me and the IRCC Officers at the port of entry.

Also, Any other forms I should have on hand to save some time?

Thanks!

Hello everyone.

I need suggestions please.

I am an Indian citizen living in the US. My Copr is valid till January mid of next year. I'm planning to go to India in November and then enter Canada starting January of next year. Do you think it is risky or could be an issue if I enter Canada do my landing as a PR just 10 days before my copr document expires?

I don't want to enter Canada and then visit India while my pr card is under process to avoid any unnecessary problems.

This story is slightly misleading. Getting a fellowship position as an international medical student is much easier than actually practicing medicine in Canada. Seems like he will be focusing on academia. Becoming a GP in Canada as an international medical graduate is much more likely than a plastic surgeon. Actually many Canadian graduates have difficulties finding full-time plastic surgery positions.

This is not an issue at all.
