Hi nthompson

+1 for the valuable information.

by doing some search on the career edge website i can see they pay about 2500 per month. Id doesn't appear that they have jobs in Calgary, do you know of any agencies with similar approach in Calgary?

Regards,
S7
Hello S7,

Yeah thats the base pay which they pay and after tax and everything you end up with 2,200 a month but it really is the way to get your foot in the door. Not sure if there is a similar program in Calgary but I will have a look into it for you

Thanks for the + :)

I have another question which I think everyone goes through....

should I quit my job and go to canada to look for a job ? I know many people say why did you apply then lol. the question makes sense.... but as everyone knows that situations change from a year to year. when I started collecting my documents my job was not secure and i was looking for any other plan and canada was the best option... now things got better for me and I have a better job and more secure here in Dubai, I keep asking my question does it worth it to quit a secure job and go to unknown future job wise?its very difficult to do this when you have a family, and sometimes I ask my self the job is secure now it might not be secure in future.

it took me long time to prepare my documents and i have applied in May 2014, my credit card got charged and I received PER, so I guess 8 to 1 years more to wait to the final stage but im thinking in advance about the move.....

you valuable inputs guys and nthompson, please

I have BSCin computing and Masters ininformation Management and I hold ITIL intermediate certs with 9 years experience in IT service management and support - if this helps to get a better advice from you guys.....

Well everyone's situation is different I moved here because my wife is Canadian and if we stayed 10 more years in UK London and compared it to 10 years later in Canada we for sure would have a better future in Canada.

What is your reason for wanting to move? Different life? Family in Canada? Or just want a change and to explore another country? Well I tell people the world is your oyster and if your heart is set on to going to Canada to give it a try go for it, as you don't want to look 10 years back and think " Damn I should of went to Canada to see how I would of done" If I was you I'd take a year sabbatical leave from work and give it a try for a whole year to see if its for you. Make sure you have an idea of what part of Canada you would like to go to. If you can speak French I'd say Montreal, If you like the city life Toronto or if you like abit of a smaller city life with a fair bit of country life to it Calgary.

You only live once and there is no harm in giving it a shot. I see people on here saying "You need Canadian experience" You know why people are saying that? Its not to do with experience its a culture thing if your English is really good they will look past it, it is all down to the person. You have nice amount of experience in It and you have the foundation of understanding service management with your ITIL certificate.

IT jobs in Dubai get paid really well so if your planning to move here and expect to be paid more sorry to disappoint you but I highly doubt they will pay anything near to what your getting over there. But the Canadian life is fun and exciting best of all seasons so you can Ski\Board in the winter or go to the cottage in the summer and jet-ski or drive a boat etc

Hope this answers your questions

I don't think Career Edge is in Saskatoon, my landing destination in a few weeks. Please let me know if you know of any other internship opportunities in this area.

My experience has been in Finance but I am looking at crossing over into Business Analysis with some formal training when I land.

No problem I'm glad this information is useful for you.

Hmmm I will check and see if there is any internship programs over there. Funny enough I just saw some new job postings in the government for Business Analyst in Toronto pay is pretty decent as well $69k- $99k.

I'm actually going to take a Business Analyst course in a month as it is a really good certification to have here.

This helps a lot nthompson , unfortunately, the current employers will be able to give me any sabbatical leave... I have already setup my destination and I want to live in Calgary. I have a friend and relative in Ottawa but I guess Calgary got my attention more.

The main reason why i want to move is for better quality life for my family and a better future for my young kids. I wish I could be PR here in UAE but everyone knows that once you lose your jobs here you can't stay and you have to leave within 1 month unless you find another job, very uncomfortable with this.... and my home country is not stable at all.

Yes I agree with you, when I die I don't want to say I should have tried this and that. I have worked in couple of a big national companies and I speak very good English with a little american accent but very clear with a little mother tongue accent (arabic) effect, I hope this helps me :)

I guess I have 2 options, I can land alone first and look for a job then call my family or I can land with my family and get back to UAE and apply online untill I get a an interview and then fly for interviews which will be the most expensive interview ever lol .. not sure I'm thinking loud.....

In your current situation right now, one thing that I would suggest is, are you entitled to any holidays? like 2-3 weeks holiday from work? If so I would line up a huge list of recruiters and companies when you have them companies and recruiters list fly to Canada alone and during them 3 weeks apply to every job in your filed as possible spend a solid 10 hours a day for the whole of your duration and if your not pleased with the results you can always fly back and have a deep talk about with your your family before moving.

Calgary is nice I got offered a job with Robert Ralf there but me and my wife are based in Toronto and in the end it paid off. Be patient and do tons of researching.

Hello Wonderful,

Sorry to say that you never got a call or email. I would suggest that you look at one of the job adverts that they have advertised openly and build your resume around that and apply again through a different email address. I think how they screen your resume is that they look through their job bank list and see if any of the resumes fit the descriptions. As when I applied I got a phone call saying that theirs a potential position going and none of their candidates have the qualifications and experience for the position. So redo your resume and try again

Well said.. I think thats what I plan to do take days off work and hit Calgary... at the mean time I have started to network on linked in and I must say its kind of working I searched from people in Calgary and I could identify people who recently arrived as immigrants by looking at thier work experience.... I have a good feeling about this....

thanks much for all of the encouragement and advice

I think that would be the safest bet for you. LinkedIn is meant to be a really amazing way of networking. I've not updated or used it but I might in the near future. Thats a great start follow your heart and keep that energy going and I'm sure you will find something.

If anything positive happens don't forget to post back and let us know how you got on :)

Hi nthompson

I am reading few immigration posts on this forum and I found your post is the most valuable and helpful to all.
I have one question as all the immigrants have...
Right now all of my documents are ready and I am submitting them in next month (Oct'14). So I think it will take almost 1+ year to reach final stage.
I am applying under category '2171 Information systems analysts and consultants'. I am ISTQB/ISEB certified manual tester having 9 years of QA experience.
Can you please tell me about the job market for QA in Canada and any other certification required before I reach there?

Hi nthompson

I am reading few immigration posts on this forum and I found your post is the most valuable and helpful to all.
I have one question as all the immigrants have...

Hello,

Thank you I'm glad you found my post helpful. If your case for immigration is not complicated like mine you could have your Visa in 6-8 months even less. Mine took 9 months but I had a few things which could of made them look deeper into my application.

I've seen TONS of QA tester jobs kind of made me wish I was QA certified. What part of Canada are you looking to immigrate to? I've seen loads of QA tester jobs on Hays.ca in the past paying really well.

Not sure if you would need any additional certification but for Engineers I know they do need to re-qualify in Canada to be acknowledged.
