so yeah i was thinking of taking the admission in Univ of Calgary/Alberta in graduate program (MS in petroleum)...i wish to apply for the next season. my profile is
Btech (India) %- 76( we dont have cgpa and yeah i am the topper of my branch and if we calculate it it will come more than 3.5 i guess)
Did my training from ONGC (worked on in-situ combustion)
No job experience as i am a freshman
TOEFL-91

Can i expect an acceptance call from either university..? I know its very tough to get an admission in petroleum as seats/univ's are limited..do i have any chance? :)

Guys please respond i need to know if they have high standards and should i look for other universities..?

Well it'll be hard but there's no harm in applying and trying out your luck if you can afford.
I would say your profile is good but not good enough. But then who am I to judge!

A good GRE score coupled with strong SoP may just get the job done. Although, I know they don't need GRE but then again, It makes your application look good. (My opinion)

Also 76% doesn't correspond to 3.5 CGPA . It's hardly above 3.0 on a scale of 4.O

Yeah...actually i have applied for UOA i am waiting for their response i hope i pass the preliminary round and then i can concentrate on my SOP.

As per converting % into CGPA is concerned i dont think we can make a comment because its all together two different systems and considering the fact that getting 80% in Btech is next to impossible in India and i guess they are aware about it, thats why they didn't ask me to convert my percentage.

I just want to know whats the most important criteria of getting an admission in any of the mentioned university. I know work experience is very important but do they have some seats reserved for freshmen..?

apply in dalhousie or regina.. alberta, calgary have very high standards

dalhousie is full they r not taking application in meng petro program and i dont think regina provide meng in petro, do they?

im on same ship

So yeah i got approval of my preliminary application, now whats the most important thing..? Where should i be careful..? Pls help it will be highly appreciated.

ms is very difficult to get in.

i also applied in uoa but til now no response my bs is 86% and IELTS is 7. im scared i dont get admission.

Apply for Calgary and Uni. of saskatchewan.. both together, i think u gonna get adm. in Calgary Uni. easily if not Saskatchewan is the best 2nd option. by the way am studing computer science in University of Saskatchewan and i can tell you this Uni. and City is much better than what i first thought. and dont apply for Regina.

WHY NOT REGINA?

PETROLEUM ENGINEEING IS OFFERED IN 5 UNIV AT GRADAUTE LEVEL--NEWFOUNDLAND,REGINA DALHOUSIE CALGARY AND ALBERTA

MENG IS ONLY OPEN AT CALGARY AND REGINA

FOR MS PROGRAM ITS VERY DIFFICULT TO GET IN. MS PROGRAM REQUIRES SUPERVISOR. IT VERY HARD TO FIND ONE FOR MS PROGRAM.

SO MENG COURSE BASED IS BETTER.

So there is no option saskatWEAN for masters in petroleum engg.
