You should check a map of Canada. We are in the middle of the continent no ocean for a few 1000 kms in either direction. I would try to down play the mariner aspect of your experience and play up the logistical experience you have.

Part of the MPNP requirements will be based on your employability. Since you are specifically a seafaring navigator that would be a job hard to find in Manitoba since we are surrounded by land.

I've included some links you should look at. One is transport Canada the federal department that your occupation falls under. Inquire with them if they have any positions in the province.

The next link is a list of currently available jobs. review them and see if your experience and qualifications could be used in those jobs. Also you will want to make sure your qualifications are recognized in Canada before you do anything else.

Can anyone tell me what the average processing time is for a MPNP? Just wanting to compare it to spousal sponsorship.
Hello :)

Timeline of last year's applications
General Stream: 6-9 months
Family Stream: 3-6 months

Starting January 2013, MPNP offered online service for all applicants regardless of stream. Hopefully, this will make the processing faster as correspondence will be thru email.

Unbelievable. It takes less time to get here as a nominee then it does if you marry a Citizen.

Hello :)

Since there is no restricted jobs anymore in applying to MPNP, you may try to apply. For sure you have transferable skills you earned from your present job or from your previous jobs that will suit a job or jobs in Manitoba. I know few applicants who got their approvals in the same field as yours. My brother is an Ordinary Seaman and he also plans to apply late this year.

Check this link to search for a job title having the skills you have now and indicate that as your intended occupation when you apply: http://www.workingincanada.gc.ca/show-search-results.do?source=mb-immg

Try these links to know if your are eligible to apply and if you meet the 60 points required score:
http://fluidsurveys.com/surveys/immigration-surveys/mpnp-survey/
http://www.immigratemanitoba.com/asset_library/2013/03/manitoba-immigration-mpnp-points-worksheet-interactive.pdf

Read the official website of MPNP and if you need any clarifications just post it here.

Good luck and God bless.

How many months will it take for a spousal visa?

I think PNP is the easiest route to be a permanent resident in Canada.

So far it has been 1 year and 2 days.

The MPNP used to take 2 years and FSW was longer back in 2009/10 when I first looked into it and if you say they have removed any job restrictions they must be getting pretty desperate here to get people to Manitoba. looks like the government has completely switch their priority from family reunification to economic.

The timelines I gave you is for nominations only. PR application to CIC only takes 4-5 months to process starting late last year.

It was my problem before because Nurse is one of the restricted jobs in MPNP and I was delighted when it was lifted few years ago. Yes, you are definitely right, they are now more concerned with the economy.

I have no idea why they would restrict nurses in the first place.

That's what I thought as well because for how many years nurse is included in the shortage list of occupations.

Maybe that time they are thinking that it is a regulated job and nurses can not work in their profession when they arrive in Manitoba not considering that nurses can work in other jobs while registration to become a nurse is on process. I believe they have seen that point hence opened the door to all.

Hello to Everyone,

I am one of the pre 2008 FSW applicants affected by backlog, and my application fee will be refunded. I applied in 2005 and waited almost 8 long years just to find out that my application will be deleted. I wasted my youth, overseas job opportunities which I turned down while waiting plus investment opportunities.

Now I am considering application under the general stream of MPNP. My problem is, I do not have friends or relatives in Manitoba, although I have relatives in Vancouver. I have requested my relatives in Vancouver to help me find a supporter who will be willing to endorse me to the MPNP. My question is, what are my success rate if my supporter do not know me. Of course I plan to call my soon to be supporter as soon as I have one in order to share my settlement plan. Can anyone share some information about this kind of set up. Thank you. Any helpful information will be highly appreciated.

You may start applying anytime soon using online service but make sure you sit for the English exam first. The higher score you get from the exam, more points will be added to your MPNP score.

The points you get from the tool doesn't mean that it is the score that will be given to you by the program officer. It is their discretion based from assessment of your qualifications, ties in Manitoba, etc. Remember that the tool is for self-assessment only.
