Hi,

I made my refugee claim in April 2025, and so far my claim has been deemed less complex with no possible exclusions.
I can't get a lawyer, and can't get legal aid; so I ended up self-representing myself.

In my Basis of Claim form, on question 3 "List the country or countries where you believe you are at risk of serious harm." I misunderstood it and filled the first box with my country of origin, then the three other boxes with other countries where my claim's bases have been historically persecuted against too. Which is a bad mistake when I look back at it. I've never had any form of connection (residence, citizenship, right or similar status) with those 3 countries. Additionally, on every other part of my claim (narrative, proofs, residency history) I only mention my country of origin, and nothing else; as before Canada I haven't been to another country for protection.

I called the IRB, and got immediately connected to a case worker where I explained the issue. She told me that it likely wouldn't cause an issue with my case.
I know that I can amend my BOC or send a disclosure letter, but I wanted to ask for opinions here first.

Do you have any suggestions, or experience with this kind of issue?

Do not bother worrying. Your claim will be accepted soon and you will apply for PR. You are not a robot, you are human and you can make a simple mistake.

OK the reason i said so is that i made a small mistake in my former job title while filling the basis of claim but they ignored it and accepted my claim without a hearing and everything is good. So don't worry i know some IRCC officers are subjective in decision making.
But if you cannot stop thinking about it, then i suggest for you to send in a web-form and that will surely make you feel better and calm about the situation.

Thank you, I appreciate your help. I think I'll leave it be for now, as it doesn't seem to have caused a problem. And I believe it will be easy to explain in case of an issue.

Before your hearing smart to you can amend your BOC. You misunderstood the question you only claim risk in your country of origin & you have no ties to the other countries listed along with short explanation letter. If you have lawyer or representative who can help you.
