Hi Guys,

Applied on 17 Feb 2024 for renewal of father Visitor Visa(military person-retired 14 yrs ago) expiring on 05 Apr 2024. Earlier visitor visa given for 2 yrs in 2022 without any issue in 30 days. Visa applied from India.
They asked for ADR on 04 Mar 2024 and provided same on 08 Mar 2024 with LoE that certain info not available due to records not available and unable to recollect.
Portal & Tracker showing background verification check in progress.
Raised Webfom on 15 Apr 2024, however, no response except that reply will be given within 28 days. Now its going to be 28 days but nothing rec'd.

Don't know why so much time taken? Either IRCC should grant or not grant. Why make people wait and waste so much of time. Also, background verification should not take so much of time especially when visa was earlier granted. In addition, my father has traveled to other countries including US. I see people waiting for almost 1.5 yrs. It's really ridiculous or IRCC being discriminatory against Indians due to souring of Indo-Canadian relations & military veterans being part of collateral damage.

So anybody in similar situation? Any way out to expedite or any advise?

Every means to seek information would suggest you to just wait. That is what most of the people in this group chat are doing.

Can’t do anything but wait. Even MPs will tell you to just wait eventually.

A little bit of anti-social element create bad precedence for the honest & genuine applications. But even if there is no bias, Canada is extremely slow to process military background files (for all countries). Further the TRV number crash down by minister, this could also be a factor. Who knows :-/

Please update if anyone sees movement in their files!

At least some here were asked for additional documentations. In my case, not even a single document has been asked as of today. Just bare silence.

Anyone knows what the process actually involves here?

Eligibility was completed right after Biometrics was completed but no communications after that. All they say is your background security check is still in-progress.

I wish there was more transparency in this process.

Yes, there needs to be more transparency. Give a Visa or don't give a Visa. Why so much time in background verification check? In our case was of renewal and as an individual my father's status has not changed in anyway. No response even to Web Form after 28 days. It's like we all are in 'Doldrums'.

It is something absurd asking these detail from a person who has retired 20 years. How does he expected to remember everything like place of posting name of COs and duties done 35 years back. Assuming they are doing background check. How ? No one will them access to official records. Now worst they give you limited time visa and every time you reapply after visit they again ask these details. Do they not trust their own background checks done earlier or expect persons again joins and perform duties after vist. Any one who has visited canada number of times again put in this cycle on the other hand canada is heaven for all criminals of other countries who seek political asylum. Background check is never done for human right violators but for veterns who served their nation are treated like this

They will keep doing these every time you apply itespective of fact that 20 years old record can not change

Okay- you want to take take information every time take it, but don't keep people in limbo for months. I think they still have discriminatory attitude towards third world countries and especially military personnel. I agree back ground check never done for actual human right violators, but, for veterans who have earnestly served their nation are seen with suspicion as if they are big human right violators. This is really pathetic and illogical..
