Well, it's official, hubby landed yesterday!!! We are so happy. Everything went very smoothly. We crossed the border, showed our passports and the immigration agent directed us to go to the immigration building just beyond the border crossing. We went inside and had to take a number. We waited for about 45 minutes to be seen by an immigration officer. The officer was extremely friendly. He asked which items we were bringing into the country, if my hubby had any criminal offences and where he intended to live in Canada. It was as simple as that; not even a slight glitch. It took about 20 minutes to process the paperwork and we were finished! I cannot express how happy and how grateful to the Canadian government that we are. They have allowed us to start our lives anew together in this great country! My hubby feels especially thankful and relieved that he no longer has to live in the shadows. He can work hard to contribute to Canadian society.

Congratulations!!!

I hope you had a chance to celebrate last night and continue to do so this weekend. May you have a wonderful beginning to the Canadian chapter of your lives together. :)

You're welcome ... and welcome to the forum :)

Thank you! you guys are of great help.

I still havent received my AOR and the ecas is still not showing my step 2, would you recommend getting the SSP already and sending it with a prepaid bill? Or should I just wait until it appears in the system?

Husband´s coming sept 18th to puerto vallarta and i wouldnt want our vacation to get in the way of mailing stuff.

I'm all about doing things proactively so I think getting it now would be a good idea. If you get the PGR request couriered (vs. mailed regular mail) you could save time and sending it in with the SSP gives you a request to ask for the letter.

¡Buena suerte!

Thats excellent congrats.. my husband just went for his pgr on thursday.. they told him he has to wait 10 business days so we hope to get it to mexico city by the week of sept 10th at the latest.. its just going to make it there for the 60 day limit.. getting the pgr was a pain for us!

We should get it there around the same time! :) I hope he doesn't have any issues. What is your deadline? You have the RCMP check now right?

That's what we did. I would look into the PGR. If you have to go to Mex City to get that as well, then you might want to make just one trip for the SSP and PGR. But I would send them the waybill now and tell them its for the PGR letter. But we received our PGR letter in regular mail before it was sent with the way bill we sent.. so I guess it's hit or miss. If you were approved as a sponsor on Aug 1st, you'll probably get you AOR very soon.

I am so happy for you!! I also totally understand - Canada means total freedom for us and more opportunities as well. How is your husband going to go about job hunting? Mine just started.

Theres a PGR office in my hometown. I'll call them on monday to make sure I can get that here and plan the trip to Mexico City.

CIC says that the address to get the SSP is Calzada de Tlalpan No. 2962, Colonia Espartaco, Delegación Coyoacán, but the site they give for more information says it´s Xola 324, Colonia Del Valle, Delegación Benito Juárez.

Where have you guys been getting yours?

Our letter was dated July 20th and it said 60 days for the deadline. So I assume that would be calendar days so it would be September 18. We are going to be sooo close to the deadline date. I never imagined it would take us that long.
Yes the RCMP they gave us 120 days but we were able to get it to them in like 3 weeks so i hope the went ahead with the RCMP part on our file even though that letter came after.

So when you got ur pgr in the mail did it come with a letter with your deadline?

Felicidades! I tell everyone how relaxed things are here compared to the U.S., with less crime, less meaningless aggression and less, much less overt racism/discrimination. Universal healthcare helps, and overall the atmosphere is more positive.

[ Since I'm comparing, I feel the need to say: while I do believe Toronto should have better mass transit by now, comparing it to Paris or NY or London is nonsense. Those are BIG old cities and are either actual national capitals or so big and important that they have to have massive mass transit. Rant over]

So i was reading about the ARC as I think that will be the next thing they ask me for
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/inadmissibility/arc.asp

Does anyone know if there is a way to find out how much money you currently have outstanding with the government. I know we have to pay back the government for the flight they put my husband on when they deported him but I am wondering if they charge for the police service involved or any other service. I really dont know what to expect about how much we owe. I am assume they wouldnt have looked for the cheapest flight..

Also does anyone have experience with

•a written letter (in English or French) explaining, in detail, the reasons you feel you should be allowed to return to Canada.

I dont even know where to start on this or how long it should be.

Another thing that confuses me too is when they say
If your departure order became a deportation order because you did not leave Canada within 30 days of the day the departure order was issued, you must explain the reasons you did not leave Canada in the allotted amount of time.

My husband was deported but he says he was never given the 30 day departure order so i dont even know what were going to do about that part.. i hope they will accept his reason as never being given the letter..
