Yes I think air Canada it´s the only one I can find that doesn´t go through USA! And we don´t want to go through the whole process of getting the transit visa for the states. We are going to Edmonton so we would go from mexico city to vancouver and then from there to Edmonton.

Yesterday we asked at aeromexico and they said they have from mexico to montreal and they allow 1 bag per person and then it´s a 50 dollar fee for any extra bags.

Oh but we almost had a heart attack for a minute when the guy said you need the transit visa for the states for just flying over USA territory....but then another guy that was there said you don´t need it.

Can anyone confirm that you don´t need the transit visa?? I am pretty sure you don´t...

No you don't need a transit visa unless you actually land or have a layover in the USA. Air Canada will be my choice as well. Have you asked what is their checked baggage policy? What I like about Air Canada is that I can pay an extra fee to take my cat with me as if he was a carry-on. I'm not putting Mr. Peaches with all the checked baggage!

Hey Nessa, West Jet does direct flights to Calgary and Edmonton, but only from resort towns.. I'm not sure where you are located. But if you can fly from one of those towns, the flights are cheaper and direct to Canada. I always fly West Jet when I can.

I live in Fort McMurray, but I usually fly from Calgary direct to Cancun. I know they fly to Puerto Vallarta as well for people more north, and a couple other places. I'm going in two weeks, but this time going to Tabasco where his family is, so going to go through the US this time with an american airline. Not looking forward to the layover.. haha

Mr. Peaches - adorable! My cat is going in cabin too. Since I'll be traving alone with a toddler I might do a separate flight just with the cat. I've heard horror stories about cargo.

Oh No! What horror stories?? Our dog will be coming to Canada as well, and she's too big to carry on :)

I don't want to make you paranoid. But do your research. Make sure the pilot knows there's an animal in cargo because they need to make sure it's heated down there. It's fine for most animals but things do happen. So being a bit paranoid might be good.

awwww Mr. Peaches is sooo cute!!! :D

Thanks TSauretBaxter for the info about west jet! We are in Veracruz so not a touristy place....but I will check into that and see if that would be more convenient! Maybe we can go to a resort place around here and take a direct flight.

@Edgar haven´t asked air canada about the bags yet, but when I find out I will let you know!

oh yeah, and we also talked to someone in a Mexicana office and she said that they are quickly moving forward with the paperwork, and should be back up and running in about 2 months! So that might be worth keeping an eye on too!

Edgar, Mr. Peaches is fantastic!

I've flown a cat both in cargo and in cabin within Canada. Both experiences went smoothly, but I personally felt better having the cat in the cabin with me (Sherpa bags rock for in-cabin pets btw).

Air Canada was totally fine for pet flying, but WestJet is OUTSTANDING in that department. The time I put the cat in cargo (it was my first time flying with her and on longer flight from Edmonton to Toronto); the WestJet baggage guy let me walk with him right to the gate so he could show me where he was putting the cat and explained where the carrier would be loaded etc. :)

Aww.. WestJet's customer service is one of the reasons they are my favourite airline. We will be using WestJet when we fly her here.

That is awesome! I had to fly my cats in cargo to Hawaii because they have a quarantine rule. They made it ok but it was not fun for anyone. And when I flew back to CA, one had to go in cargo and they just put him on a belt into the baggage claim area without even checking if I was there. That was United. I was mad. Someone could have taken him or let him out or done who knows what.
