Hello canadiana, do you know how long does it take to get an arc after we send them the application for arc? An answer will be appreciated...

Mailing time plus two weeks plus however long folks wait to do the process after they get the letter relative to others in the thread. Nothing for official statistics since the "stopwatch" goes on hold when they are waiting for responses outside their control.
Thanks!

My husband's Mexican passport expires before his medical so we want to renew it. Will it mess up sponsorship approval if he does it now or should he wait until we get approved and then send his new passport info to the VO?

You can get your Mexican passport renewed SAME DAY here. A truck goes around the city several times a week. It is so nice! We are in central California if you are curious - lots of Mexicans here!

Oh I know. Waiting for approval is way better than getting the application ready! =) Make copies. I didn't. Grrr.

It's been one weeks since the interview in Mexico City, no news as of yet with regards to sending the Passport in. I will post the same day I find out or when the website maybe changes the status too!

Reach out to edgarsitow - he's really the expert on ARC's for Mexico. He shared some ARC specific info on http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/-t32717.0.html and also has posted quite a bit to this Mexico thread.

Edgar reporting for duty!

I know a bit regarding the ARC, however I still don't know how long is the processing time :(

The thing is, that it's been changing a bit. Before Mexicans required a visa to visit Canada, average processing time was 1 year. A few months after the visa was implemented, the average processing time was reduced to 6 months (since people weren't just applying for the sake of it anymore).

We're talking that this was 2 years ago. So following the pattern, it should take less now, however the site where I used to check the processing time for Mexico disappeared :S So I can't confirm :(

A little off topic, but since most you are also going back and forth from Mexico, I am curious what people use to get cheap flights and any advice on cheap travel to Mexico. I am looking at PV and GDL (which ever i can get to cheaper !). But post regardless as I am sure other people are curious too and Mexico is a big country ! So far I have been using Redtag and expedia ...

Do you need to apply for the ARC seperate of the sponsorship application if your partner was deported ? I brought this up awhile ago and even though he will be allowed back into Canada ( he has a one year ban) before our application is even close to being finished, I understand that he will still require one. I am wondering if this is a step that we have over looked, any information would be great !

You have to wait until the embassy tells you that you should apply for it. Technically an ARC is only given when there are "compelling reasons" in this case your compelling reason would be a bona fide marriage. If you send an ARC application before a decision on your case has been made, they might just deny it.

Also, I read somewhere on this forum (Can't remember where, I'm sorry! :( ) where CIC would just issue a letter stating "ARC No longer necessary" Though I don't know if it's because they applied for the ARC, or because CIC waived it.

Also for flights. My wife generally uses Expedia.ca

Normally you have to stop over in the USA, but you save a couple hundred. She just bought her round-trip ticket TOR - MEX with a stop in Houston for about $520. Pretty good considering it would've cost over $900 with Air Canada. Screw that! I'll give myself that luxury for my ticket back to Canada :D

Check this site:

www.cheapoair.com

I always use it to book my flights. Except prices are in USD. But it´s pretty cheap! Also usually they have stop over in the US.

Number one tip I have for booking a flight to Mexico, book in advance! In October my SO and I got round trip tickets with Air Canada for 900 dollars for both of us, taxes and everything included.. We left in January, pretty good deal :) However, I always try to fly with Westjet.. they usually have pretty cheap tickets, and are almost always direct (I hate stopping over places lol)
