Hey was just wondering if any of you have some experience with this or have any info...

My husband has a Bachelor´s degree from a private university here in Mexico...in International Commerce, he has his cedula profesional and everything. We are thinking it probably won´t be valid in Canada. But where can I go to find out for sure? Or is there like a course he could take to make it valid in Canada? Should he get his degree translated here etc...? I just have no idea even where to start looking to find out more about this.

Thanks!

I'm pretty confident that International Commerce isn't a regulated profession in which you have to register with a provincial governing body in order to practise your profession (such as engineering, medicine, architecture, etc.) So his degree is valid and he can work wherever he wants.

The problem though, is going to be finding a job that will hire him, this is something very common with recently arrived immigrants. Just like anywhere else, most foreign degrees are held to a lower standard than local ones. Canadians think their universities are better, same with Australians, Europeans, etc. So that might be a problem. Now is he willing to go back to school? If he is, then he can probably get most of his credits validated and just go to a Canadian university for a year or so, this will greatly increase his employment opportunities.

My recommendation would be to check with a university in your city that offers this programme, and ask them what's up.

Thanks for the info! I will check it out!

Yes he is defenitely willing to go back to school, he was thinking of doing so anyways. He is willing to do a whole new program if he has to...but it would be good if his degree from here is recognized in Canada too! :)

The French lessons are not free; you have to pay $40 every 6 months, but I'm sure you can handle that :P haha.
For REAL? they offer french classes for people immigrating for 40 bucks! I suppose they dont do this for english :( :(

I dont know about BC but in ontario there are lots of english programs that are either free or super cheap.. I am sure BC has something similar :)

I keep seeing adds on the bus here in Vancouver for free english classes to new immigrants, so I would say yes we do have them ! They are government sponsored adds

Thanks Huron! Will check it out...we are actually planning on living in Calgary, at least for a little while. Maybe U of C has something similar. Will have to check into it! :)

We got my husband's passport and some documents back with a letter confirming his TRV application was withdrawn. I don't even want to think about how much money I spent on three courier envelopes and the processing fee - all for nothing. If I had just found this forum a day earlier! Oh well. I am glad I have his passport back and that it is all over with.

We got out sponsorship approval 2 months ago (Jan 31st) and haven´t heard from mexico yet....should we be worried or just need a little more patience?
