Thanks a lot. Do you know what is the criteria for asking FBI clearance. My spouse went to USA twice for 6 months each in the last 5 yrs. Should I apply for the FBI check. I am not sure where to take the fingerprints in Mexico for her in Leon Guanajuato. Any clue?

Yes you will need the FBI Report, and you should request it now as it will take about 9 weeks plus shipping time to get it back.

"Who needs a police certificate?

In general, you and everyone in your family who is 18 years of age or over need to obtain a police certificate. You must obtain a police certificate from each country or territory where you have lived for six consecutive months or longer since reaching the age of 18.

The certificate must have been issued no more than three months before you submit your application.

If the original certificate is neither in English nor in French, submit both the certificate and the original copy of a translation prepared by an accredited translator with your application." http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/security/police-cert/intro.asp

So she needs one from Canada too as she was here for 6 months twice and we applied under common law.

My understanding is that the PGR (For the constancia) will send you to an expecific place to get the fingerprints taken (In Mexico City) as per the FBI fingerprints someone here may have more experience with that.

One last question boss : In the form for immigration EN008 did you put in line 12 a US address where it says that "did you live in any other country for more than 6 months..." or did you say no and left it blank. I think if you say yes and put an address they ask for FBI. Am I right?

Huron, why is it that you weren't expecting to be asked for the FBI check? Is it because you lived there less than 6 months? I was surprised too when the embassy asked me for Baja California background check since I clearly stated that I lived there only 4 months. I asked the embassy -- by email -- whether it was a mistake and in about 10 days they replied by email to say that indeed I didn't need to get that one. So it seems they do admit mistakes, and maybe you could ask them?

By the way, after almost 4 months in Canada, things are going well. I'm working at a major bank on contract and we hope I can find something permanent soon, and we're moving into our own place in a great area in less than 2 weeks.

I applied for my Common-law Oct 01 in Mississauga (submitted medical and federal police clearance at the same time)
Sponsor approved Dec 01 and file sent to Mexico city Dec 01
Now waiting ...

What is AOR? should my spouse be expecting this soon?
When can I expect the passport request.
Are there any more steps in between.
Should I pay the landing fee?

@ Huron, I havent been charged to my CC yet, FBI received my package Aug 06, it´s been more than a month, it takes more than I tought.

Hi everyone. I just received the sponsorship approval letter for my husband who is applying for permanent residence through Mexico City. Will my husband receive notification when the file arrives in Mexico City?

We submitted his medicals with the application but we are uncertain of how our situation will be handled regarding police certificates. Will the office in Mexico City send him instructions on how to get the certificates? His situation is a little different as he lived in the US undocumented from age 16 until August of this year (he is now 30). We included a letter requesting a waiver of this requirement with respect to his time in the USA due to his lack of social security number which precludes him from obtaining state or federal records. He has been back in Mexico less than a year so am not sure how the Mexico requirement will be handled either. Any thoughts?

I am hopeful that our application goes through without a huge delay. Also wondering if anyone has gone through an interview and what it was like?

Had the prints done in Mexico city the same time I was printed for the Constancia de Antecedentes Registrales.

Mr&MRSRomero did their own prints if I remember correctly. Spend some time reading through the old threads there is a lot of good information.
