LeisaP - Have you considered doing both in Mexico City?

For example, you could make a passport appointment first thing in the morning, pick it up a couple hours later and go the the doctor later in day.

i was considering it.
but our roommate made an appt for last monday and they called him 2 days before and rescheduled him for 1 month later.
im scared we wont get a spot if we try to ask for an appt for august 10th.

do you know where we go or who we can contact in mexico city to get his passport?
thanks

yes we are!. but now we realized there is no doctors in puebla. and 3 in mexico city. so we have a bit of a problem.
my husband asked for next friday off because he needs to be in puebla to get his new passport. so we thought we would get the medical dont that day too.. but theres no doctors in puebla.
so either we have to find our if one of the 3 doctors in mexico city work on saturday or sunday. and if not hes going to have to ask for another day off work.. which his boss might get irritated about seeing as hes only been working 3 weeks. lol. (and his boss doesnt know hes going through permanent residence for canada. because he wouldnt hire him if he knew he was planning to leave soon)

soo anyways if you know of a doctor in mexico city that works weekends let me know! haha

we will figure it out though. they gave us 60 days to send in the medical but i would perfer as soon as possible :P

I know how you feel. He was lucky enough to get time off when I visited last month, but that was because it was kind of slow while they were waiting for something. And I wasn't sure how were going to do trips to Mexico City to get things like PGR etc. Plus he had to get his military papers update for the PGR. And it they do an interview he won't get to chose the date!! It's going to be hard to explain to your boss why you need time off, because obviously they don't know you're applying to come to Canada. Tricky situation for sure. But it usually works out. At least you're not too far from Mexico city. If you would do it on a weekday.. I would try and go from the dr office to the embassy and drop it off there if you can do that.

Oh and I should mention he has to work a month straight now.. to make up for the week he took off!!

Yeah its difficult.
especially here in mexico city because hes still doing training, so he is under the general managers eye all day.
but once they move him to GDL. he will have his own office and be working by himself with only 5 other people in the office. and shorter days so it will be easier for him to slip out if he needs to do something.
but than again everything needs to be done in mexico city anyways. so we have to some how make it work before we leave here.

wow a month!! poor guy! its so hard to get time off here even for one day! they make such a big deal about it.

I know. Before this job, he was working as a realtor. He asked for a day off after not having one for a month, and he was told no. They weren't even paying him!! He worked for comission only. I felt so bad for him.

awe. thats ridiculous!.
but one thing they should do in mexico.
because everyone is paid by the month. instead of by the hour like in canada
so if you pay people by the hour. if they ask for 1 day off or a few hours off. you dont have to pay them for it.
and its much easier to not add it on
than trying to subtract one day from a monthly wage.

the paying in mexico doesnt make much sense to me. being paid by the hour would be easier and better.
but thats just what i think lol.

There are a bunch of places (delegaciones) where you can get the appointment in Mexico City - once you sign up for an account you'll be able to see availability of appointments. If it looks full, keep checking as folks may cancel / move their appointments. Good luck :)

Thanks everyone!

My brain isn't working due to lack of sleep. I can't think of all the things my husband needs to do now. So far I have bank account, SIN, OHIP (medical) and license.

What else is there?

1.- Go to Tim Horton's for a double double and a bagel with herbs and garlic cream cheese.
2.- Have him try some Poutine.
3.- Take him to a CFL game and start teaching him about hockey.
