Well the moving truck arrived this morning and our stuff is headed to Canada. We thought we would be moving this week - I mistakenly believed my husband could easily get a visitors visa. We are saving money by putting our stuff on my parents truck but now we wait for the PR in a pretty empty house. I still have a month until I get sponsorship approval! I'm so anxious. It's taking so long! I'm going to be bored waiting...but I'm excited our stuff is gone. I've been packing FOREVER! Now the baby and I fly to Canada for 3 weeks so that will pass some time.

Just think about how nice it will be to arrive and have your stuff all in Canada already :) You'll be able to focus on settling in without any delays waiting for your things to arrive!

Thanks for the encouragement!

Psh at least you'll have furniture once you move to Canada!

I'm selling the few things that I have. I live in a semi-furnished apartment so I just have a few electronics (TV, Stereo system), dishes, and a loveseat. Then I'm moving to Canada and we're buying everything from scratch.

It will just be me, my clothes, my PS3 and my adorable cat in that airplane.

We will be taking a PS3 and a cat on the plane too. :)

Yes! I would never leave without my PS3 and Wife #2 LOL jk :D

Now that we touched this topic, CBSA requires that the cat be vaccinated against rabies, my vet said she can give me a certificate, I have a vaccination card for the cat and its Pedigree papers. Does the Vaccination card/Rabies Vaccine certificate need to be translated?

I would definitely translate it.

Fair enough. I'm kinda getting ahead of myself. At this moment I'm just waiting for a response to my email I sent on Wednesday. :)

I was JUST thinking about this yesterday and I havent even SENT my application yet LOL talk about getting ahead of oneself :P

Does anyone here happen to know if I (a Quebecer) have to get my 2011 taxes done before starting the whole sponsorship process? (I am sponsoring my Mexican husband, btw. I currently live in Mexico with him)

Thanks in advance!!

Eek. Hopefully your vet (or one of her colleagues) speaks English and can write one up in English for you. Otherwise, there are international certificates in a bunch of different languages (btw, Mexico actually requires those health and vaccination certificates to be issued if you ever go back for a visit with you kittie). Canada accepts just a letter that is signed that certifies the rabies ... and the good news is that you aren't getting ahead of yourself because as long as the rabies shot will still be valid by the time you land you could have the letter issued today - one less thing to worry about :).

The requirements for the certificate are at http://www.inspection.gc.ca/english/anima/imp/petani/felin2e.shtml

"Cats may enter Canada if they are accompanied by:

a rabies vaccination certificate.
The rabies vaccination certificate must:

be written in English or French;
be issued and signed by a licensed veterinarian;
identify the animal (as in breed, colour, and weight);
state that the animal is vaccinated against rabies;
indicate the date of vaccination;
indicate the trade name and the serial number of the licensed vaccine; and
specify the duration of immunity (otherwise, it will be considered valid for one year from the date of vaccination)."

Has any one else noticed that they raised the wait time for sponsorship approval from 75 days to 84 days since April 10th, Sure hope this changes soon, that is alot of time to wait for the first step !

Yep. Watch the January thread. They have been stuck on mid January for WEEKS and no approvals yesterday or today so far. It is bad. 84 days is insane!

Totally insane, our package was just received and I was so excited that I went to go look at the time lines, this quickly ended my excitment, oh well, not much we can do but be patient :)

Hi Everyone!
Need some help here...

My wife & I have yet to start the whole sponsorship process (we plan on getting started ASAP). We currently live together in my hometown: Mexico City. She's from Québec (that's where we intend on moving).

Is it absolutely necessary for my wife to get her 2011 taxes done (which she hasn't yet) in order to start the sponsorship??

Thanks!
