Hi,
if I apply for Perm Res outland while living in Canada when and where do I take my medical exam?

You can do your medical at any Panel Physician listed on the CIC website http://www.cic.gc.ca/dmp-md/medical.aspx . So you can do it at any of the Dr.'s listed on that web link... in Canada or in any other country.

And if you are doing an Outland application, it needs to be done right before you send in the application. The Dr. will give you an official document (receipt) IMM 1017 that proves you have had your medical - you need to submit this form with your application.

What happens if I send my outland application without my medical exam?

If you read the instructions they want you to send them with your application. You can risk it and they might still accept it or you might piss them off and you'll get your application back.

I think it is a lot of work to put together the application, not to mention a whole lot of money (you cannot submit the application without paying the fees) to risk sending an incomplete application, and having the whole thing sent back (you wouldn't loose the money, but it would certainly be a major delay). I have not heard of them accepting an application without the completed medical...at least not in recent history. There could be cases of it happening, but like I said, why on earth would you risk time and money already spent?

Thanks for the info. I've only realised that I should be applying the Outland way today so just trying to get my head around the differences. I know that you don't need to send your medical with the inland way as far as i know....
My Visitor record expires on 25th jan 2013 so i hope I can get me medical stuff done soon and get the application off!

Thanks for your hep guys

Yes, you are correct...with Inland you wait until they request the medical. Hopefully you can have the medical done quickly. Good luck with your application!

Please read the instructions. Both Inland and Out of Canada require the medical to be done before submitting the application: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/pdf/kits/forms/IMM5443E.pdf If you don't submit it, then you are just adding additional waiting time. They send the letter, you do medical, they wait for proof.

Actually the Checklist for Inland application states - Proof of Medical Examination (if you do not hold a valid Medical Report, instructions will be given to you when you receive your notice of eligibility), where the Checklist for Outland does not contain the part in parenthesis. There seems to be an option in the Inland application to provide it later, where the Outland does not. Although it will delay the application, it may be advantageous to some to delay the expense of the medical for an Inland application.

There is an excellent thread that will walk you through the entire process of completing the application process.
It is called " How I organized our application and a summary of all helpful tips I have learned"

It is extremely well done. Right to the paper clips.
