This is AWESOME news. My husband did his medical in December right before our wedding as we thought we'd get everything ready and sent in by the end of February. It took us a bit longer than that and we weren't able to apply until end of April. A big relief and $300 in our pocket since we shouldn't have to have him redo! :) :)

This is good news for a lot of people. For me, it came just a week too late... lol... Just 10 days ago, my wife received a notice to redo her medical exam which expired on May 19, 2012. Of course, she urgently redid the med exam as required last week. ;D

There's a new procedure that will allow medical validity to be extended if your application processing is completed within 15 months of the original medical exam and the only thing stopping your application from final approved and PPR is the expiration of your medical results (or ability to reasonably land within the initial year-long validity).

Officers will now be able to submit a request for an extension of the medical exam result validity (as long as they were done within the last 15 months) and they can extend them for an additional 12 months without the need for an additional medical exam. The details are on the CIC website.

Hopefully this saves folks time and expense of extra medical exams.
Missed it by *thismuch*. Oh well. At least many others won't be stuck waiting the extra time for re-do's.

This is a very good procedure. I think this new bulletin has come into effect exactly when i needed it. I was directed to re-do the medical exam a couple of days ago by an officer because i was being told that the final decision of the officer is pending because of the medicals so i then got this good news and i requested a reassessment of the medical results. I was then contacted by an officer informing me that they would send a request to the panel physician to examine them. I became so glad when i got the email but what i don't get is how long it is gonna take for the panel physician to re-examine the medical file and send a decision to the immigration officer? I would be delighted if you share your thought, idea and experience on this matter.
Thanks in advance!

Fantastic! Glad it helped :)

For new exams, the medical assessment at the Regional Medial Offices usually takes anywhere from 2-3 weeks. This should be faster (hopefully!) since all the data is in they system already.

Good luck! Let us know how it goes.

Thanks. Doest it take that long, ohCanadiana? I thought it would be a lesser time. The average processing time for the medicals exams if requested is from 3-4 weeks according to London office procedure so I had thought this new procedure will reduce the time from 3 to 2 or to 1 respectively. what do you think?
