I heard mandamus can cost you around $5k -7k and I do not have that much money to spend

As far as I heard, mandamus has several stages, the initial (e.g. "Letter of Demand") cost less and still may help.

As far as I am aware FP request is only for criminality (they want to root out the possibility the applicant committed an indictable offense). Some people simply clear it without needing FP. That seems to be the first stage of background.

Then if you never got FP but are otherwise in process, it could be that your criminality check has already passed, and they are just lazy or working on CBSA/CSIS stuff. It seems like the latter can happen even if there is no red flag for whatever purposes, and for most people they just automatically pass (?)
My wife did get FP request and already submitted. The reason most likely she got it is because of the name change. Criminality is done. I hope security clears soon.

Anyone else with background not yet complete? This is becoming worrisome
Still waiting for BG too. Submitted initially on April 12, returned on May 8 (physical presence not enough, although it 100% was because I verified it with CBSA ATIP notes), submitted again May 8, AOR June 10, Test complete July 25 (updated Aug 13), GU Aug 30, and nothing after ... Called IRCC on Sep 23, agent said BG in process and LPP not started, office is Vancouver, and application routine (also said "I see no concerning notes from the officer on your file and its still below processing time". I'm extremely worried a couple of us were randomly chosen for extensive security check by CSIS, the Fb group shows people stuck in this stage since 2023! Really don't understand why they missed us in the Aug 28th BG batch update? I wonder if it's certain nationalities only (mine is Egypt, if anyone is curious and wants to share theirs too). Other thing I can think of is I have a lot of frequent international travel, especially to the US, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey because of family ties. Sucks because people who applied in July and Aug most have their BG done within couple days/weeks.

I don’t think it can be extensive if it’s randomly selected. I was born in China and never been to anywhere other than Canada since I was a teenager. If they randomly select people it’s more likely for process quality assurance reasons, same with random interviews.

Just to confirm with those who’ve already taken the citizenship test—there isn’t anything audio-related, right? I’m currently out of town and my work laptop is having audio issues. The test deadline is October 25th, and I’ll be back before then, but I’d prefer not to leave it until the very last minute.

I believe they listen in and watch you. The test guidelines recommend you to be in a quiet room.

I don’t think the have anything to do with audio. They do take screenshots and capture photos during the test as per the details they have provided in the email.

You do not. The only email I got was for test and test complete. Nothing for BG. I am assuming there will be nothing for LPP and then an email for Oath.
My Test result finally updated on last day of my 1 month window. Was relieved, though there was no email from tracker. Also, the test was updated complete 2 days Pre-dated. Saw similar trend in my spouse's tracker as well.
