So who would order them if both people are living outside Canada?!?!?

you need someone in canada on behalf of the applicant..and the applicant will have to sign an authorization.....can all be done by fax and/or email!!

Until this year, I'd never ordered CAIPS notes (now GCMS notes) but given the long strange trip its been (and the past week's been a crescendo of strangeness) I use them just to keep track of what's going on and trying to ensure that I don't go insane in the process. If it makes you feel better. with four different applications in various states of processing I only ask for notes from two of them. :D
how humble :). just 2 of them.. Did you apply from all States to inrease your chances of winning :) ?
I'm going insane waiting for them...

I'm the applicant and I'm in Canada, so I order them for myself. That way they are free. Otherwise, you would order them for your spouse if he or she is outside Canada ($5 fee).

I've done both, but these days I scan and send the ATIP requests. They send back an automated response indicating that they received the e-mail, so it's pretty much automatic (and at this point I order a new set a few days after I received the old set.)
I think the fee applies whether you are in Canada or outside
The form says "$5.00 required for an access to information request"

It takes exactly 30 calendar days. When is your husband's interview KJG?

Well, one of them was refused (I ordered a copy of the entire physical file for that one) and the other was just submitted in August (work permit renewal). But the two I order are presumably in process...

The person ordering must be inside Canada. With that said:

If you are asking for your own notes it is a "privacy act request" and there is no fee.

If you are asking for someone else's notes it is an "access to information" request and there is a $5 fee.

I checked both email and paper format in the form. Would that take longer? or just mailing time!

Sorry I did not know. Thanks

I've never ordered paper format, always just e-mail, so I'm not sure.

I DO know that if you ask for a copy of the physical file it takes longer (almost 3 months for me) because someone has to actually pull the physical file and scan it/copy it and send it to the office in Ottawa.

October 4th.....I can check in Cuba but I am worried I won't have access to any attachments on my emails in their internet cafe.....I definetely won't be able to print them out...but I hopefully will be able to read them.....so BCgirl2012....seeing as my 30 calendar days would fall on a Sunday, being September 30th....I would probably get them on the Monday being the 1st of October???

I think I checked physical file as well! But the file is in Ottawa as far as I know!
