LMO Processing Time Ontario

hey everyone, here's my timeline..

LMO application sent: Dec 29th 2011
NOC: 7232
System file # received: Mid March
Case assigned to processing officer: 10th April 2012
Work permit expires: 31 May 2012

Still waiting for decision to be made but should be any day now. Fingers crossed.

When HR at my company called on the 10th and was told that my case had finally been assigned to someone who would be making the decision they said to call back in a few days which we did 3 times so far. The last lady we spoke to said that they would contact us before a decision was made. (Implying there's no need for us to keep calling every few days). We're going to call again anyway at the end of this week.

I think you will get a response before that because the case has been assigned to officer and it doesnt take more than 2-3 weeks after it s assigned (based on some related posts i read on different forums)

Good Luck !!

Hi cabelen I found this on the HRSDC website!
"Recommend to foreign nationals to submit their work permit applications (both new and renewals) only when the employer has confirmation from Service Canada that a positive LMO has been issued. However, renewal applications must be submitted to
CIC prior to the work permit expiry date."

http://www.hrsdc.gc.ca/eng/workplaceskills/foreign_workers/index.shtml
Hope this helps!
Thanks Foxxy for this inforamtion. So I really need to wait for the a positive LMO.

my timeline:

Application filed: 12th Jan,2012
File number allocated: 10th Feb,2012
Status as of 18 April, 2012: Officer will be working on my file. It will take 3 to 4 months after filed number is allocated to case. they advised us to call them back in next week.

Could anyone of you share your experience about time it would take to make decision after file number is allocated to case?

Thanks,
Gaurav

You can submit your work permit application just 4-5 day before it expires even if your LMO has not been approved but you have a file number. CIC will hold your application for 2 months and wait for LMO. Call CIC immigration and confirm. I checked this on another forum.

Yes. Actually my employer has called SC & informed me about it. SC has mentioned 3-4 months of processing time once file number is allocated. Could you please share your experience about processing time usually taken by SC after file number is allocated to perticular case?

Thanks,
Gaurav

I talked to CIC and they said this only means that no one can apply for work permit if they havnt received +ve LMO or the file number. However if you have file number from SC you can apply for WP just 4-5 days before but you should not apply to CIC before 30 days or so. So, you need to update your knowledge by calling them and yes if you can wait for LMO and not applying for WP then you can.

Hope you got what I meant.

Hi everyone! My employer applied for the LMO the last friday (13th April 2012) and my visa is expiring 6th May. I was waiting for the file number so I could apply for the work permit (and then having the implied status), but I called to HRSDC today and they told me that the file number could take 3 weeks - 1 month (and then, 2 more months for the LMO). I explained to her that my work permit was expiring before that date and I couldn't send the application for the work permit without that number.. so she answered me that I could do nothing. So I am lost right now, if the file number is not arriving before 6th May, I should change my status to visitor and I will have to stop working, but I guess I can't apply for that the same day that my visa is expiring... when should I apply for the change of status? In other post it was talking about 4-5 days before... so I guess it will be fine if I am sending the application online 4 days before (either changing to Visitor or extend my work visa)? I don't want to do that too soon just in case the file number is received before 6th May and then I could continue with the Implied status..

Any advice??

Thank you so much!! I really appreciate it.

Hi Jass,

Thank you for this information. But is this for people who already have a work permit? Because there is an expiry date.

In may case, I'll be starting to apply a TWP here in Manila. So I think the first sentence from Foxxy applies to me.

Did I get this correctly?

Thanks!

yes you can apply your work permit 1-2 days before expiry date...by doing this you will get some more time for the LMO file number n when u ll get the file number ...just give a call to cic n tell them about your file number. If u ll not get your LMO on time n they ll reject you work permit then at that time you can go on restoration status.

Thank you so much!! I really appreciate it.

don't you know, if HR Associate is a contact person in my LMO, can my manager call SC and check the status of the app?

Hi, the one who signed on the LMO application can only inquire about the status. You can try your luck anyway!
