I think I understand what I must do. The following is just to make sure I am making sense:
I am currently a student at college. My study permit goes until 2 February 2015. I must complete a 6-month internship following my graduation, which I plan on beginning in 1 February - 1 July. Even though this 6-month internship that my college is granting me is part of the curriculum, I need to apply for a renewal of my current study permit as well as a work permit. This is the document that I must apply for:
ww w.cic.gc.ca/english/ study/work-coop.asp (I can't post links, so I've added spaces)
First paragraph reads: "For some academic programs, work experience is part of the curriculum. Foreign students who wish to participate in a co-op or internship program must apply for a work permit as well as a study permit."
Ok, so I need to apply for both. Looking into this Co-Op application, it asks for an LMO number, Labour Market Opinion. My employer (which I do have one interested in hiring me as intern) needs to apply for this in order to obtain this number, in order for me to apply for a work permit... and, since it makes no sense to apply for a study permit without having obtained an LMO, I am finding myself having to wait until my employer gets an LMO to THEN apply for both permits.
My fear is that it will take a long time for this LMO to get processed. I need a valid study permit in order to apply for this work permit, so, if my employer receives this number AFTER February 2, I still cannot apply. How long does this usually take? How difficult is it to get an LMO if I'm looking to get an internship in the Music Industry?
Worse, I could be waiting all this time to then be declined such document (which could very well happen since I've read that it is difficult to obtain this) and then I'd have to leave Canada. So, while I wait for the LMO, I must prepare for a possible leave to my home country in case this happens, and, if I do get it before Feb 2, I must quickly apply for both Study and Work permits.
Am I making sense?
Thank you VERY, very much.
