Depends on what factors people need to explain that are not in the 'Personal checklist' generated at the 'Document Upload' stage.

Some people need to explain a lot (eg getting married or intending to get married, family members accompanying them to Canada, Travel History, Personal History factors, additional medical reports etc.), and some others need to explain almost nothing at all as it is covered in the rest of the documents they uploaded.

It varies from case to case. As long as you keep under the 4MB PDF limit it should be fine.
Thank you JoacRy. If someone provides explanation for visa refusal or personal activity, do they need to upload the relevant documents also with the LoE for reference?

It's not specifically required, but my thoughts are that if it helps the VO to make a more informed decision, then why not provide the detail in the LOE. This may prevent the VO coming and asking for additional documents at a later date. As I said these are my thoughts only. Some people would say this is not necessary.

I agree with you.

Seconded. Unfortunately, the prosecution, the judge and the jury is the same 3rd party (ie CIC) and we can't see what evidence they may or may not have against our case. LOL! :)

Anything is fine, preferably print and get it signed as it would be neater than hand written one.

I had a Long LOE explaining different writing format of my name (foreign documents) travels that I could not fit in the web form etc (total 7-8 pages)

It was typed , more like a statement/cover letter but I did not sign it.

I am planning to write a single LOE for my PR application , I want to cover 4-5 areas of explanation.

So what is the best format to write a single LOE, is it better if I include a cover letter before I change the topic. Or should I include Contents page with page numbers for different areas.
Any suggestions pls?

No need, will it be longer than one-two pages on word?
