Hi all,

I am a student that has graduated in End-April, and the convocation will be taking place in mid-June. I have a job offer lined up for August and I have applied for the PGWP last month. I have received a letter that states that I will be eligible to work till mid-September or until further decision is made on my PGWP application, whichever comes first.

After my convocation in mid-June, I am planning to return home to Malaysia for a month prior to starting full-time in Canada. My study permit, work permit, and TRV expires on July 31st, 2022. That said, will I have any issues traveling back to Canada around July 20th? I have checked IIRC's webpage and it states that I can travel outside the country while the PGWP application is still processing, so there are no worries about that. However, my main concern is that both my permits and TRV are a week from expiring (i.e., July 31st) if I do come back on July 20th, so any advice will be highly appreciated. Are there any documents other than my job offer and PGWP application that I can use to prove to the immigration officer on my way back to Canada? Also, what are the chances that I will be refused entry into Canada?

When did you graduate? This is not your convocation date.

I know someone with similar situation and he was able to enter Canada. Please note, I am not giving you 100% chance of re-entry, that is decision by the Border Officer...

All that matters is your study permit is valid and so is your TRV, so you can re-enter Canada later provided your documents did not expire. Call IRCC or CSBA to be certain. PGWP applications now takes half a year or more to be processed, and TRVs take another 3-4 months, so it's best to travel while your multi-entry student TRV is still valid.

I gave IRCC a call and their agent told me that I shouldn't have a problem as long as I do not cut it too close (i.e., a day before my TRV expires). Thank you for your prompt answer.

Thanks for your reply! I am aware that it is up to the discretion of the border officer, but the answers here have led me to conclude that as long as my TRV is valid, I should be okay as long as I provide relevant documents upon entry. Just curious, how close to expiry was your friend's TRV when he entered Canada?

It was 2 weeks before expiration.....
