I think it should be similar to USA where maximum time for one visit is six months regardless of visa duration, though one can enter multiple times for six months if the Visa duration permits.

Baggage Carts [Trolleys] at Toronto Airport [YYZ]

U all are aware [probably have been reading in all the landing threads] that we need to have small change for getting the Baggage Carts at the Airport. Or can call for a Porter/Handler.

Baggage carts cost $2 each [coins], of which $0.25 is refunded when carts are returned to a dispenser. U have got Two [2] ways to obtain that 'loose change':

1. An *ICE kiosk is conveniently located, just aside the baggage carousel -available to provide currency exchange [including coins] but albeit @ lower exchange rates.

2. A Smarte Carte Ambassador 'vending machine' dispenses small change in the baggage claim area. Look @ the photo here: http://www.travelblog.org/Photos/421028

I want to know that i am planning to carry TC in CAD.

If i take it to any bank ( TD/Scotia ) will they charge more on it if i want open account ? Or they simply encashed it ?

Cart ....do you mean trolley at the airports? No, US currency not accepted.

Here in Canada 1$ is called a LOONEY and $2 is called a TOONEY.....so dont be surprised if anyone asked it you wanted loonies and toonies ;D

Try to get some Canadian change from your bank in INDIA (or wherever you are currently) before you land. Or you could exchange money at the airport but the exchange rate at airport are not good as Qorax mentioned....you end up losing money :(

In Canada they accept US dollar in groceries, restaurant & mall... only in restaurant or fast food the exchange rate is 1=1 & they will give change in canadian dollar. So everytime I dine out or buy some food in a restaurant i used my US dollar so I can get canadian dollar change in 1=1 rate. Some fast food/restaurant accept $100 even you spend only $15-20. Right now, bank exchange rate is $1= .96 CAD

;)

Thanks Qorax for your reply.

I think its better for me to take one Bank Draft instead of TC ( both end need to pay conversion charges).

Also i am planning to take some USD with me. How is that option ?

Need to know why scarbourgh is not good place for settle down ? Please elaborate in details if possible.

Regards
Mayank

Scar[e]borough ?
-better be avoided unless u have no other choice...

1. The largest neighborhood of Toronto,
2. Older developments - aged housing,
3. Congested streets - parking headaches,
4. The only neighborhood which has 3 divisions (Stns) of Toronto Police [take the hint!],
5. In 2009, the largest predawn operation [in Canadian History] fetched 84 criminals here, many hardened ones!
6. Quite a few gangs operate here (but ordinary folks aren't affected much),
7. The Bikers' Gang r a menace,
8. Closer to U of T,
9. Some pockets r good, especially the North - nearer to 401(Expressway),
10. Few locations have multi-million$$$ homes [Bayview],
11. Locations bordering Pickering r far from Toronto-Downtown, but nice/newer developments there,
12. Some areas have cheaper housing, but also the menace that comes with it,
13. Locations closer to DVP r Ok - advisable to reside for newcomers,
14. Kennedy Street is a safe bet for residential purposes,
15. If it has to be Scarborough - nothing much wrong with it,
16. If Scarborough is not a must - Avoid.
17. If u have friends/relatives there - go ahead.
18. North York (similar distance from Toronto-Downtown) is a better place,
19. So would be the suburbs of Mississauga, Brampton & Markham (closest to Downtown).
20. Oh, every day there is @ least one [1] fatal shooting here [if that's a/ny point to be considered!!!].

Think about it !
Qorax

Ps.: No hard feelings to anyone - it's just a personal opinion - & I could be wrong.

Dear Qorax

I got my Visa recently and planning to land soon in Manitoba where I am planning to live.
the issue that I will be landing for 2-3 months to get the PR card then get back home for 1 year to prepare finalize my business there and move permanently to Canada.

My plan was to rent a car temporary for 2-3 months which I will spend in my first landing, but I found that car rental for this period will cost like 4-6 Thousand dollars if not more, So I am thinking to buy a car and use it for this period then store it in my friend parking until I will be back after one year from my leaving.

My question: am I able to buy and register a car in Manitoba (get it insured as well) before getting my Canadian (Manitoba driving license), also to ask if I can drive with my international UAE driving license until I get my Manitoba one (I am not sure how long it will take me to get the driving license there)

what do you think about the idea of buying a car in this way, don't you think it is better to pay the above 4-6 thousands as part of car cost instead of give it away to the car rental company.

Note: I have 2 driving license since more than 5 years (Saudi and Emirates one).

Thanks for your help
