My family and I are doing our landing from USA to Ontario. We are not exporting our car (going by rental).
We are not American permanent residents. Do we need to present our american status/visa? Do I have to carry it with me? DO we deal with US Customs in any point?

Yes, you will meet CBP officer once you enter US from Canada side.
They will ask for your Visa status just like you get asked at airport. So, please carry all your documents like H1B, I797 etc ( assuming your are on H1B Visa)
