I landed November 20th and I still haven't received my PR card -- should've taken 33 days.

I know mail is probably backed up due to the holidays. I've called the Call Centre but get menu after menu and no live person to talk to.

How does one get through to a person there?

What does ECAS show? In Process or Complete?

Mine is Still In Process.

My husband landed November 7th and received his last week. So if your ECAS shows complete you should be getting it soon.

Mine still says the same since before landing -- decision made! :(

Hi I just called CIC and got to talk to the agent after waiting for over 10 minutes on the phone. He asked my UCI number then told me PR card is not ready yet. Waste my time really!

The agent on the phone seems not to be able to see more than we can on ECAS.

I didn't even get transferred to any agent. I went through menu after menu, then the call disconnected on me. Gah!

Cathy, when did you land?

Sammy, thank you -- there's still hope it will come soon!

I landed on Nov 15

'complete' for the pr process and 'complete' for the PR card are 2 different things. Once CIC starts processing your PR card, you will see a new section specifically for the card. it won't be mailed until THAT section says "complete."

Thanks Cathy -- didn't know about the different sections!

Just read on another forum that due to Software & System Upgrades @ CIC, PR Cards are taking between 1 to 3 months.

I hope you can see when you landed on ECAS otherwise it might be your landing information got lost at airport as it happened to somebody else before. I read before that the person called CIC months after he landed and was told by call agent that CIC had not received his landing information yet. Crazy!

>:( What a load of bullcrap. I've worked for major companies and govt departments that went through IT system upgrades and they never took 3 months. And we're talking second world countries here. Unbelievable.

mine was processed and lost in the mail, so no pr card for me. i now have to go through the process of getting an new one issued, which apparently takes 6+ months.

Oh dear, that's awful! Can you get access to public services without it?

The PR card is most valuable for people with non-visa-exempt passports who wish to travel outside Canada.

For people who do have a visa-exempt passport, it is not as critical. It makes life easier but you can make do without it.

You can use your copy of the COPR for places that require proof of permanent residency (get a SIN number, qualify for health insurance, etc).

of course, you don't need your pr card for public service, only your passport and COPR (landing paper). got my sin, OHIP, already working, just got my license (today - yay!), and on to insuring/registering the car. the only place that gave me a hassle about it was the bank. since i am visa exempt, and usually drive back to the us, i don't really "need" it. i definitely "want" it so i don't have to use my passport and COPR for everything. I nearly had a heart attack last week when i thought i lost my COPR, so it will be good to have 2 items to prove my status here.
