Hey guys, I have a question and I'm hoping someone can help me out with it. My entire relationship with my fiance has been long distance, and we have never lived together in the same country. We speak for hours a day every day, and I have gone to visit him a few times and will continue to do so both before and after the wedding (early next year), but I'm worried they are going to give us a hard time when we file our application. Is anyone on here currently in the same situation, or were you in a similar situation before filing your application? If we have sufficient proof of daily communication and records of all visits, along with wedding photos and letters from family members and friends (I've met dozens of his relatives and friends in person, and he has spoken with all of mine on the phone and on skype), do you think our application will be successful or will they still give us a hard time because we have never lived together?

Just hoping that I'm not the only one in a situation like this where I've found my soulmate but we unfortunately were not born in the same place :(
If you don't have a lot of proof to submit, you can gather the rest while you wait to hear from the embassy. We submitted proof of 9 months of relationship doc. 5months before we got married and 4 months after we got married that we had a legitimate relationship and gathered the rest during the waiting period and submitted it before they got a chance to interview me :) . I think because our cases are all different you just gotta look into your case and see what you need to do to make it work, I think there were people on here who send lots of proof and got denied. So... Oh and all you could write a letter explaining somethings to them too. We wrote 2 letters explain our age differences, why we had limited proofs and all the other issues we though they would interview me about.

I know this isn't the same topic as what we normally talk about on this forum, but I am just so excited, I had to share.

When I did hubby's application to sponsor him, the topic of citizenship came up. I was born in the UK and came here when I was a child. My parents never applied for our citizenships back then and I guess I just never bothered doing it either. Well, since dealing with CIC and the sponsorship process I realized just how important it was to become a Canadian and applied to become a citizen.

Today I received my Notice To Appear - To Write A Citizenship Test. I know maybe its silly, but I am just so excited to become a Canadian. It also gave me immense hope in our immigration process because the time posted for citizenship applications is 3 years and I applied in October and am writing my exam in May. Much faster than I would ever have imagined. When I spoke with CIC about how long it would take, I was told to sit back and relax because I most likely wouldn't hear anything for a year or so.

Anyway, I just had to share. Thanks for reading. ;D ;D
That is amazing news Lexi, soon to be new Canadian citizen, it is never too late. Def sit back and relax and you will soon be taking your pledge ;D I am sure that this process is way more relaxed than the one we are all going through with Kingston at least!!

Hi there........

I just want to give a little update. Life has been moving so fast you can not believe since hubby arrived.
When he got to the airport both of my children were with me. We were excited to see him! And we got the video of him arriving. :p

We have been so busy. Thursday my daughter made him eat a BIG MAC. She took lots of photos eating it. Then we drove him down Yonge Street and across the Gardiner. It was nice to finally get home and wake up beside him. I kept thinking I was dreaming. Also I kept trying to do so much , because I kept forgetting he is not going back. He called his mother and told he is in another world.

Friday I drove to Niagara on the Lake and we had a short walk around there, then we went to Niagara Falls. WE had a buffet for lunch and he won 100.00 in Casino. He couldn't believe the size of the falls, and all people.

HIs favourite place so far is Home Depot. I took him to Square One and he took the subway to the Eaton Centre. I toured him around City Hall Toronto, and Old City Hall. He is amazed at how many cultures we have here, including Sikhs, Muslims, Chinese, Indians etc. HE has toured China town and eaten in a Polish restaurant.

It is so nice to cuddle up to him on the couch and watch movies. We were so cozy last night that we stayed right there and never moved.

On Sunday we went to church at Kennedy Road Tabernacle, and then he visited with one of his aunts who he had not seen in more than 25 years. She is now 90. I only have time to write this because he is being tested for his ESL Courses.

I need to get going now and pick him up. This is the first time I have left him alone and he is a little nervous!

We had a family friend in the same situation and they got through EASY!! The only difference was that they knew eachother for a short time and married fast.
Have very positive hopes, the wait is long and stressful sometimes, but it will work if it was destined to! There are many people who meet this way and it all works fine. Keep everything and stay organized- you can do it! All the best luck!
Thank you!! We're trying to stay positive about everything but we know we have a long road ahead of us still, so this gives me hope! :)

Thanks for the advice! Yea I plan on sending as much proof as I possibly can, and I'll definitely be writing some letters explaining anything I think they might question. I've started getting some of it organized already and I'll keep adding to it as our relationship goes on. Fingers crossed that everything works out and the process goes as smoothly as possible!

Hi MzD,

Like others have said gather what you do have and continue to accumulate them up until you are ready to submit your application.
From what I have seen based on cases from the forum and family members who have filed, you don't have to live together unless you were applying for common-law.
Therefore since you will be planning on getting married; they will looking for evidence of communication including visits, phone records, even snail mail and Skype and texts also help.
You also say you met a few family and friends; it would be good if they could write letters stating they know you guys as a couple and have met you etc...

Ok great! Yes I have been going through all of the records I do have and taking screen shots of all FB/Skype convos as far back as I can get them on my computer, as well as phone bills and cards/letters we have sent eachother. My phone deletes msgs after one month, but I have started taking screen shots of all texts as well and will continue to do so! And we will definitely be asking everyone to write letters verifying our relationship!

Thank you for your help! :)

Hi Mz_D,

- My Husband and I have NEVER lived together. I didn't even stay with him in his house until I had visited at least 4 times.
I went through my detailed cell phone bill where it shows all the incoming and outgoing phone calls with numbers. I got all of the months I could (Only a year back was saved online) and highlighted all the incoming phone numbers that were his.

- I also sent credit to him so I screen shot the history of sent credit from digicel and eztop websites and printed that.

- I put photos into a word document or power point so I could put more pictures on one sheet of paper and print dbl sided at staples. I did this so I could send an obnoxious amount of photos with captions as to who was in the photo and where we were and the dates on it. It also cut down on making my package weigh a ton. (FYI powerpoint was WAY easier to work with to move photos where you want them to go and get rid of borders so you can actually take up the whole sheet)

- My hubby didn't have internet for almost the entirety of our relationship so just some snail mail and postcards from the two times i did study abroad while we were dating also got photocopied as many on one sheet at a time and dbl sided.

- I didn't have any letter from anyone i just had photos of me with the people in his family I had met and vice versa of my family that he mostly met at our wedding. Only 2 of my friends had met him before my bmaids met him at the wedding so only those 2 bmaids in wedding pictures were included.

- I like you said you would be doing also explained any questions about me residing with him further on another sheet of paper in detail.

You will be FIIINEEEE. Included as much evidence as you can. You seem to have a good start so just organize it well, answer the questions properly, dot your i's, cross your t's and you should be ok!

GOOD LUCK!
