I have a QUESTION?

Did anyone or their spouse went into school for Mature Student High School Diploma or sat the GED test after arriving to Canada?

I Don't have a high school Diploma here I have 6 C.X.C which means I can get into college here but it's not a Diploma. I was thinking of doing the Mature Student High School Diploma in Winnipeg or Sit the GED but I have been told I could maybe get into Red River College with my Transcript from here for the HealthCare Aide program.

My reasons are the program starts Sept 2 and If I can make the process easier to get in right away by sorting things out from now I much rather that than having to deal with everything at once. Maybe I should called the college. :)

Thank you.

Hello,

Although I don't know the answer to your question... I think it's a good idea to call the College directly ;)

Good for you for being proactive prior to arriving in Canada! :D

Back in the day it wasn't necessary to have your grade 12 to become a health care aid but I'm not sure about the requirements now. Here is the contact information for RRC -- just send them an email and they'll be able to help you.

Further to this there are several places you can obtain your health care certificate so just Google it to find the best fit for you.

Good for you! Its like pulling teeth to get my husband to do things in advance sometimes.
I went to the Red River College page and can only find the Canadian requirements http://me.rrc.mb.ca/catalogue/ProgramInfo.aspx?ProgCode=HEACF-CT&DescriptionType=13&RegionCode=SC there. I also found the contact info for all the campuses here http://me.rrc.mb.ca/catalogue/ProgramInfo.aspx?ProgCode=HEACF-CT&DescriptionType=4&RegionCode=SC

I would contact them and ask to speak specifically to a health care aid adviser. Advisers should know their program better than any general information.

Good luck!

**update**
I also found info on recognition of prior learning. If you have any experience in the field that may help you. Here is the link to that page: http://me.rrc.mb.ca/catalogue/ProgramInfo.aspx?ProgCode=HEACF-CT&DescriptionType=15&RegionCode=SC

Thank You, that's helpful :)
yes I only saw the Canadian requirements. I have trouble with my husband too. He thinks I am too in a rush all the time to get things done ahead of time, he like to wait and wait and procrastinate and I am opposite!

Do you have any suggestions on the other places, maybe someone you know when and it worked out for them

Hello JAMFAM and Blessed Good Friday for those of you celebrating.

So I am STILL at Pearson airport and have been since 7:30am...UGH...suppose to take off at 8pm now but who really knows!!! waiting is horrible but losing a full day with hubby is even worse.

Carm I hope that your hubby wasn't effected by these delays but I believe he was to land in Toronto
Yesterday so most likely you are making your way home still today.

I agree with Naveaha. The link I showed you to the Canadian requirements did say if you are 19 or older and don't meet the regular requirements you can be admitted as a mature student basically and only need some grade 10 subjects (also listed on that page).
