Although my husband is Cuban and we are just starting the process I have been reading this post for awhile. I called CRA at 1+800+ 959+8281 and was told that yes I could claim my husband and to refer to IT513R in the CRA search engine or on the the tax form and to keep receipts.

I doubt very much so. He's just never come across a client like this before in the past. I doubt you know everything in your job, that would make you Einstein...I know for sure I come across many things in my line of work that I never knew about. Learn new things everyday. Myself, I never thought it would be possible to claim my spouse when she's not even in Canada.

Well your message came across with attitude in it like you did not believe what Sammy said just because your accountant told you this was not true. I just tried to show you that your accountant was incorrect. We have been here for over two years and that would be two tax seasons we have gone through and we learned this from other members before us who had done this previously also. That is why this forum is a good thing because it educates us all. I am certain newer members here wouldn't have known this either and this is a lesson learned for all.

BTW...... Einstein has nothing on me! j/k.....trying to find some humor!

You're welcome Hun. I've learned a lot being on here for over 2 years. Beats paying for lawyers or for an accountant. I find they just give you a lot of wrong info anyways. ( no offence to any of my peeps on here in those professions)
