Hi Everyone!

At the suggestion of CanuckInItaly I decided to make a thread specifically for Rome applicants. When I first started compiling things it was really difficult to get the advice and suggestions of others applying through Rome. So I think it would be great for us to have a place to share our timelines & experiences, and also so that people who apply after us are easily able to ask questions and get information. So please come and join me!

Quick update: This morning my husband received an email from the Rome Visa Office.

PASSPORT REQUEST!!!! Hurray!!!!

So, Barbara, did you send the passport by mail or did you hand it in in Rome? Do you know how long it takes to get it back?

We sent it with UPS (next day express delivery) along with a pre-paid, pre-addressed way bill for the return, as they requested. If you don't do that, they'll use registered mail (raccomandata) to return it to you.
On the email they wrote they will inform us as soon as the passport is ready so we can arrange the courier pick up.

They didn't mention how long it will take to have it back. They just said we had 30 days to send it and that the visa will be valid until the medical examination expiry date, in our case mid-October. That's it.

In this moment, exactly nine months ago, we were shipping our application package to Mississauga.
Well, right now I'm holding my husband's passport in my hands and the visa is soooo beautiful!
Ok... I'm having some troubles realizing that it's all done... Remember to breathe.... :
This means in September we'll go to Canada together! I'm so grateful I can hardly keep from crying.

Congratulations abuffon! Hang in there! You'll be done in one week from the day they received your passport. Did you send it or did you take it to the office yourself?

The envelope we got back from Rome contained the Passport, the "Confirmation of Permanent Residence" and all the additional documents and pictures we provided with the application. I didn't expect to get those back! Neat! ;-)

I wish everyone all the best of luck! Keep posting your time lines and experiences, I'll be checking the forum for your updates! I'm not ready to let go of this forum, it's been a priceless resource for us. ;-)

@CanuckyInItaly We're so happy for your visa! Let's keep in touch. I just mailed my passport today with raccomandata, I could have drove there on Monday but then I thought it would get there by mail on Monday anyways...

Anyone have any news? We applied and sent everything June 14 and are still waiting for me to be approved as the sponsor! So slow! At least the Rome processing times have gone down by 1 month

first congratulation to Barbara and Abbufon for the good news.

@barbara i'll be in Canada in september because on sept 1st i'm going to be married, where are you going?

We are just filling the form and it's a big stress, we are printing the photos and right after we are going to have the letters from our family and friends, but i don't know what else to do. I feel so scared that i won't have the visa at the end, and i'm really sad. Can you give me some idea of what i can add to my application?

Hi everyone, just wondering if anyone has revieved any news from Rome? It has been 64 days since we sent everything off and still no word!

Send photos of you two together, with friends & family. If you live together send documents with both your names - bank accounts, lease or mortgage, utilities with both your names. If you live separately send emails between the two of you, phone records, copies of skype calls. If you have ever taken a trip together send evidence, if you have traveled between Italy and Canada to see one another send evidence. Letters from family and friends seem to be a very good idea as well. That is the sort of stuff my husband and I sent at the advice of our immigration lawyer. Gathering everything, orginizing everything, and feeling confident with the amount and things you send is the most stressful part! Good luck and try not to stress to much,I know how scary and intimidating it is trying to show your life in mounds of paper! Hopefully the spousal sponsorship portion speeds up so once you apply things can move speedy. Right now the Rome visa office takes 12 months, and spousal sponsorship takes 55 days. Good luck!!

...decision made! They sent me an email and I can go and pick-up my passport in Rome
I sent them an email on Thursday asking if they have my passport because I sent it via Poste Italiane with raccomandata and I never received the delivery confirmation. So I asked if I could go and pick-up my psprt when it would be ready, because I didn't want to risk it with Poste... they replied today asking me to go to the Visa Office in via Zara because it is ready!
