Interview........
No interview
My timeline. Some dates might be off by a day or two. And I don't remember the dates of everything. I only included what I could remember or had written down.

Mailed application to Mississuaga on June 14 2011
August 31 2011 received letter saying I was eligible to sponsor my husband and our documents were being forwarded to Italy
September 28 2011 received email from Italy saying my husbands documents had arrived
November 8 2011 received email from Italy asking for new IMM5406 sheet as we hadn't signed the correct line.
December 14 2011 received email from Rome requesting new personal history for my husband, more recent evidence of my visits to Albania, payment for Right of Permanent Residence fee and my husbands passport.

We sent everything on June 14 2011 and my husband landed on March 17 2012 (YAY), so it took about 9 months. We did have a few holdups though with having to send extra documents. Also when they requested his passport it got stuck at a border for a couple weeks. So had those things not I've happened it would have been faster

Hello all!

Thank goodness I found this forum...I've been doing most things on my own, and while, after a month of studying like mad, I've figured MOST of it out, it was still great to read everyone's stories. Here's mine:

I'm a Canadian-born, British-passport holding girl (dad's British). I live in Italy with my Italian fiance. I've almost GATHERED all necessary documents to sponsor my soon-to-be husband (we'll marry in January 2013). We've called the Panel Physician in Rome to get information but we can't make an appointment quite yet as I'm waiting for my birth certificate and marriage record search from Canada and then we are going together because I need to sign an affidavit for my Nulla Osta....BREATH....haha....in the meantime we are completing the other necessary documents.

I have a couple questions:

1. Do we need to translate my husband's birth certificate, police clearance, and our (future) marriage certificate...and if so, do these need to be done by a Notary or is there another option? Does anyone know how long a marriage certificate takes to get after you are married?
2. What the best way to pay the necessary fees? I'm kind of confused by this...
3. We are hoping to go to Canada before the application is accepted - We hope to have the application sent to Mississauga by the end of January (depending on the length of time it takes to get the marriage cert...), and I'm leaving to Canada in April; my husband probably May or June. We were told by the VO in Rome that he would have no problem staying as a tourist while waiting for his application...he just needs to leave the country and re-enter (i.e. go to Seattle and come back in). However, in this case, how would he receive his visa if the mailing address is in Italy?

Is there anyone out there who is still waiting approval? If so, let's exchange emails!

Thanks a bunch!

Thank you so much abbuffon!

The link you provided about the translations is great...makes me so much happier! So, just to be clear, when my husband orders his birth certificate, he asks for them to be done on a 'estratto plurilingue'? And when we get married, we need to ask them to provide us with our marriage cert on the same form? I hope they offer them here (I'm in Sicily).

Thanks again!

Happy to help, when I went to my comune I was lucky because the employee already knew what we were talking about... didn't expect that to happen :)
Anyways I hope it works out for you too.

Yes, you ARE lucky! We went to ask about the birth cert today. We went to the wrong office, but the lady there said she'd never heard of it....however, there is still hope! We'll go to the right office tomorrow and see what they say. If not, I'm going to call il Comune di Torino and ask if someone knows what I'm talking about. If we still can't get that, we'll have to do the translations. My coworker is bilingual (I am also, but clearly I can't do the translation) and she said that she has done a translation before for another Canadian girl who was doing the same thing. She went to the Comune and had to sign something (I think an affidavit) in front of someone. The thing is, she doesn't remember WHO this person is or what she had to sign. Any ideas?

Thanks again!

I think you're talking about an asseveramento, it is done at any tribunale where the translator signs the translations in front of the cancelliere. http://www.tribunale.roma.it/sezioni.aspx?sezione=69
I didn't do it and the embassy didn't ask for it...
About the certificates, print these links and bring them with you when you go to the comune.

Great, thank you! Today my fiance went with his best friend whose a lawyer and they figured it all out. Siracusa has no clue what an estratto plurilingue is (of course!) but they do know about the translations, so it's all good.

Thanks so much for all the help!

Congratulations! ;)
Your first step is completed, but now you have to wait for the longest one. In fact, now your file will be processed in Rome and it will take approximately 14 months :'(

Good luck ;)

No yet.
But for a spousal application the time average is not less of 11-12 months :(, I am pretty sure about this :(
Good luck!
Have a nice day.
