Is there a need to leave Canada and re-enter as landed immigrant?

Hi there,

This question may sound silly but I am just wondering if ever my mom, who is being sponsored by me came to Canada as a tourist and then got her immigration visa approved from within Canada, is there still a need for her to leave the country and re-enter to be considered as a landed immigrant?

Kind regards,

I don't think she has to physically leave the country, you could also arrange it for her to have her "landing interview" in Canada with an immigration officer. I think most people re-enter because it might be faster.

Yes, the landing interview at local CIC office takes some time, and how long you wait depends on what city you're in. When we inquired in Toronto it was around a 2 month wait for landing appointment. So the next day we just drove to Niagara Falls and did the landing at border there instantly.

Kind regards,
Check about flagpolling.
I think you can do that.
Its virtually entering canada . This does not need any appointment. Can be done any day of the week at anytime.

Thanks for all the input guys =)

Just have a follow-up question regarding "flag polling", if we decided to reenter at Niagara Falls border, does my mom still needs a valid US visa to do so? or she can just do her business at the border?

Thanks & best regards,

Even with no US visa, you need to go to US border still and tell them you've flagpoling to land as Canadian PR. They will give you an "administrative denied entry" to US, and turn you back to the Canadian side where you can give them this document and then land.

You must do this though, you can't just walk into the Canadian border office without going to the US side first.

What do they do if you are American? Do they stamp my passport. Obviously I don't need a visa to enter my home country. My parents asked as they are trying to understand the PR process and I want them to be less worried. They are afraid if they stamp my passport 'denied entry' I won't be able to go back. I'm trying to get correct info on this for their sake. They only have basic info on this and they've also heard horor stories from people who's friend of friend's boyfriend's cousin's half-sister had trouble. My fiance is getting this from his family too. And they are giving him blantant misinformation. His aunt is visiting and did so, I called her on it and it didn't end well.

If you are American there should be zero issue. You go to US border, tell them you're flagpoling and just want to go back to Canada side to land as a PR, and they will give you appropriate paperwork or passport stamp and send you right to the Canada office.

That's what I thought. I just wanted some confirmation. The families( especially his as of late) are getting a tad annoying. They don't like to admit they're wrong so I look like the bad guy :(. They treat me like I'm stupid and don't know what I'm talking about. As if I haven't spent MONTHS researching this. At least my fiance and I are trying to set them straight ( He doesn't like the way they are treating me at all). He's been very supportive through all this.
Sorry for the vent session just now. This is getting frustrating. Thank you so much for clearing that up for me.

Once she gets visa, goto Niagra Border, and tell them ypu are there for flag poling ( no US visa required ), they will give you some refusal paperwork ( administration ) and reenter Canada and LAND
