Hi all,

In this case I was the applicant of our PR card. We got our PR beginning of last year in BC and my girl friend(under common-law) want to go to Quebec to study French-English translation(schools only offer this program in far east of Canada). However I will stay in BC to continue my work though. My question is: Is it ok for her to do that or it will bring her trouble??

Thanks in advance

As far as I am informed if you become pr through pnp you only need to stay in the same province for 6 months and then are free to move across Canada as you please.
I know cases where people moved out of province after 6 months. So I would think your girlfriend should be good to go.
If in doubt maybe call cic and ask ? Or service canada ?

Thanks for your help.

I think since I sponsored her then she should be free to travel anywhere she wants. But then another question came up, if she moved to another city for school then we are not living together anymore, will she be in trouble cus we are under common-law...

maybe it depends from province to province, but i know that in SK you have to stay 5 years if u are going thru PNP . Not only me , some of people who i know also needed to stay. some of them now applying for citizenship and then will they move somewhere else

Hi Regina!

Did you or your friends have to sign somewhere the exact period of time you would stay in the province? Everybody has a different information and the times people mention vary from 3 months, then 2 or 3 years and know 5 years, but nobody can say for sure or provide the official information.
Can you please share your thoughts? Thanks

After you get PR you have every right to move and work anywhere you want. It's what PRIME LAW OF CANADA - The Charter of Rights and Freedoms guarantees. Period.

My friends left saskatchewan after 1 year with no problems. Must be different depending on the stream and province etc then.
Others in bc moved a month after pr.
I know several cases. But might be different but don't think it is like you are forced to stay in one province for years.
