Hello everyone!
I have been a Master's student in Canada since Sep.2019. My status in my current study permit is 'Single'.
If I get married during my studies, when can I apply for my spouse's visa? Is there any specific time to wait before applying or I can apply immediately after getting our Marriage Certificate?
Thank you in advance for your kind replies!

Yes you can apply for a spouse open work permit after getting your certificate. There is no need to wait. Just get all your documents, especially proof of finance, proof of home ties and upfront medical test.

This is posted the wrong section. This is for PRs and citizens sponsoring their family.

OWP are not guaranteed for spouses of international students although tou have a better chance than most. We see that many arranged marriages get denied SOWP soon after they get married if they haven't spent quite a lot of time in person and don't have enough proof of a relationship.

Actually, I couldn't find the right section for my special case to ask question!
Do you know which section I should refer to?

Also, regarding the Work Permit for International Student's spouse, I read in this same website that:
Full-time students with a valid study permit can help their spouse or common-law partner apply for an open work permit.

So, I think it should be okey! My only concern is whether or not I can apply for my husband immediately after getting the Marriage Certificate or I should wait for a specified time after getting married?

I do have some evidence regarding our long-term relationship during my staying in Canada, such as our Whatsapp Chats, our screenshot pictures, and so on.

International student or work permit section. This is a common case.

It only says you can apply for a spouse OWp which is why people get confused. It doesn't say approved. It is around 50/50. Better for masters students but if it is right after an arranged marriage without a lot of relationship proof that could be a drawback. Have you spent time in person? You also have to show tou have the extra finances to support another person.

Isn't it the sponsorship by PR or Citizenship people that needs the Financial Proof to support another person?!

I and my fiance' did spend time in person, but I have no evidence! The only proofs that I have is our Whatsapp chats and screenshot pictures since 1 year ago...

To be able to have a spouse or family join an international student the student and family must shoe they have the extra funds to support more people. For international students the priority is always the student first. If there is extra funds then the family may be able to join the student.

The fact that you don’t have a ton of in person time together could influence approval. Unfortunately many try to commit immigration fraud in this exact manner. An approved international student gets married and sponsors their “spouse“ to join them in Canada. Then the couple splits and the non-student tries to qualify for PR on their own. The fact that you are doing your masters is a very strong case for approval but the fact that you don’t have a lot of time in person together hurts your application. Would suggest looking at various SOWP posts.

Thanks for the useful information!
I hope I can prove our long-term relationship by showing our Whatsapp chats, call logs, picture screenshots, etc. during our distance relationship and then, our wedding pictures, and so on for our marriage in person....

As I mentioned earlier, as long as you have a strong proof of finance and proof of ties to your home country, you can apply once you get your marraige certificate. As for the documents you will need to prove that your relationship is legitimate, you can check the cic website for more information on how relationships are assessed. https://www.canada.ca/en/immigratio...etermining-spouse/assessing-relationship.html

Thank you so much for your kind reply, but the last criterion for 'Spouses' does not make sense for me actually!
How am I going to show proof of our same address if we haven't ever lived together! It is something cultural! In my culture and my country, we cannot live together before getting married formally and legally!

This creates problems because proof of relationship usually requires time living together. You can certainly apply but we see many people are refused when they return home get married (arranged) and then file for OWP. If you are denied just wait and apply again once enough time has passed. Nobody can predict what will happen or whether you’ll be able to get back to have a wedding.
