guys, did u change ur name after marriage before applying for PR? if not when do u plan to change it? i dont know when to change it. cause ill have to change my passport too. i was planning to do that when ill go home (hopefully after new year), would be faster to change passport there in place. but then i'd have to change all my cards - PR card, health card etc here in Canada. dont know what to do?

Our appliction was with me as the sponsor- When we did the app i wasn't fully changed over to my new name so our application was in my maiden name. ( Meaning my id with the gov't wasn't changed over) I now have my husbands name. It hasn't proven to be a problem thus far.

if you change in your home country how are they going to let u in?meaning at the airport as ur pasport will have another name and ur PR card another last name?.just remember after changing ur name i mean its just taking ur hubby's last name thats it which they just change it in ur pasport .i think our generation people prefer to stay with their name.but if you want do it here send them ur marriage certificate n ur pasport they put ur huabby's name then when you get it back u have to send it to the cic which can take 3months to 6 months .as for me i will stick with my name.

Janadian for you its not a big deal but you will need to replace ur goverment id from ur maiden to ur hubby's but Asta will have to send the request to Cic to amend her immigration record of landing after changing her name after marriage which will take 5-6 months or more , you can read on their website i mean cic website

I would change mine right now but I can't. I will have to wait until after obtaining my PR card to change my name.
I have to go back to the US to change over my Social Security Card since there isn't a US consulate close to us plus it takes longer through the consulate. I have to change over my Social Security Card before I can change my passport. That is just the way the US likes it done. I am not too concerned with changing my name on cards, bills, and etc but rather just Social Security Card, passport, and PR card.

Appears as if you don't have to amend your Record of Landing or Confirmation of Permanent Residence document if you are just changing your name because of marriage. This is a quote from their site.

"These historical documents will not be amended to reflect changes in your civil status situation since they were issued to you, for example, a name change due to marriage."

Your Record of Landing or your Confirmation of Permanent Residence is not an ongoing identity document. Therefore, they will not be amended to correct personal information which changed after the date permanent residence was granted, such as:

* legal name change
* name change after marriage or divorce

I want to add my hubby's last name to my name. my hubby wants it too. did it become old fashioned to do that? hehe we getting old! anyways for us its a big deal. we just gonna wait until all papers gonna be finished.

Wish I could do it sooner.

I hope we all receive some kind of good news Monday too. It would be nice if I could sign into ECAS now. I am getting impatient and afraid I will be one of those unable to sign in. I mean I guess it is only 3 months today so I should wait a bit longer but it is getting hard. Lol.

I called and used the automated service. When I called it notified me that it had been received but didn't say anything else. I knew they had put it into the computer sometime because all the other times I called the automated service, it hadn't even acknowledged it had been received. Since it didn't say anything else but that I decided to wait for an agent. The first time I tried waiting, I didn't get through (surprise, surprise lol) but the second time I did. I was actually lucky enough to get a smart and nice agent. I asked her if she could tell me if or when my application started processing. She then asked a ton of questions to identify me and then asked if I could wait on the line while she checked the computer. She came back and told me that they had started processing on September 22.

The agent told me it was the same as my client id#. She said that only applications being processed outside of Canada receive a file number. I verified it with RobsLuv and the agent seems to be correct.

I have been selecting client id as my identification type when it asks. Should I be selecting file number?

Oh!. i had no idea you got your client Id number!. that was what i meant to ask. Excuse me LOL.... No i just wanted to know if you had your client id number. . I havent signed up for ecas but i should soon since things may start moving for people my date around next week or so!...

I think you are selecting right, it is client ID. I do not remember exactly when I was able to log into ecas, but I am sure it was more than three months after they received my app. I had already had my client ID when I tried because I had applied for visitor extension before, and I was not able to log into ecas for a while. Be patient just a little bit longer, and try again the end of this month

Something that I found quite helpful was to sign up to have Matthewc's automatic ecas tracker notify me when there was a change in my ecas status. That way you do't have to check it all the time, you will simply get an email notification. It helped me a lot since I was starting to obessively check it.
