Hi guys, I have some questions about the owp and my first stage has approved. I tried to fill out the app but the section "details of intended work" is a bit confusing. I don't have a employer or the address. So what should I put there? N/A? Should I put N/A for the whole section? Do u guys have any idea? Thanks!!!

For BC, you may get covered once your file has been received by CIC.
Check this link out:
http://www.health.gov.bc.ca/insurance/msp_register.html

A spouse or a child of an eligible B.C. resident may also be deemed a resident provided that an application for permanent residence status has been accepted for processing by Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC), and the application remains active. For more information, see Covering a Spouse or Child who is an Applicant for Permanent Resident Status in Canada (PDF 177K ).
so I went to BC Services yesterday with all the required copies of CIC letters, pages 1 and 2 from my CIC PR application status (says only :"we have received your Application on august 16"), passport copies , proof that the apication fee for PR has been paid etc...
we have filed in the form 203 (account change form) to add me to my husbands MSP

the lady at the counter was really helpful and friendly, hiwever when she called to ask a specialist if my request was ok, they said that AOR would not be enough. We have applied anyway, hoping now that before they make a decision, CIC will move forward and grant us with AIP, DM, OWP.....

At least the application process has started and I hope things will go in a positive way. i don't know what I could do more?
what do you think?

I really don't see what the problem is with BC MSP. They need to look at what their own website says about when a PR applicant is eligible!

I've also sent my application, but sent it to the main office in Victoria. I have the phone number of a supervisor that was provided to me by another member here that had to fight to get enrolled and I won't be afraid to use it if I have to! ;)

*edit*
[From BC MSP website]
Ordinarily, the wait period for coverage for a spouse/child that is residing in B.C.
and has later become an applicant for permanent resident status consists of the balance of the month
Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) accepts an application for permanent resident status, plus two months.

In some circumstances, the wait period may begin on the date the application fee for permanent
resident status was received by CIC if the spouse/child has been residing in B.C.
*end of edit*

Does anyone see anything that says AFTER AIP? No, only after CIC accepts an application. Nothing about approval of sponsor at all.

I agree with you on that. I even had printed out the PDF "COVERING A SPOUSE OR CHILD WHO IS AN APPLICANT FOR
PERMANENT RESIDENT STATUS IN CANADA" and I have strictly followed the list and submitted all the copies required from the list.

Do you have already an answer for your BC MSP application?

No, but based on the other member that I mentioned (who was successful after a bit of a fight), I'm prepared to do the same.
If their language is incorrect, they should change it...but as it is now, it's quite obvious that is IS based on AOR.

We got MSP coverage ONLY after we got DM letter from CIC. Before that, even with AIP in hands Victoria refused to process our MSP application. So my advise - wait for DM. Also - with DM you can also apply for BC driver license.

I think part of the problem lies the way it is worded:

Only way to find out is try and try hard!!

That's not cool at all! I'm sorry to hear that. We had the same issues with ab health care, went down to a registry and that lady was rude too. We end up applying and printing out the forms ourselves and sent it away, copied our passports and the AIP letters from both of us as well.

I found this maybe that helps :)

http://novascotia.ca/DHW/msi/fact_sheets.asp
Thanks, Line.a! I called back and the woman that I had on the phone this time was a lot more helpful. She went through the information part of the application with me (husband's name, date of birth, work permit validity dates etc.) and said that she would be sending them out. I guess the rules here for provincial health coverage are completely different - she told me that while hubby didn't have the card yet, he was covered from the date it said on his work permit. Which is amazing, I thought we were going to have to wait 3 months to have him on coverage.

I really hope they mail out a new OWP to you at your new address, it's WAY overdue. :p

I think a lot of people don't understand what we're going through, we're just another voice on the end of the line. It's just so taxing, I feel like I'm always on the phone these days! Haha. Cannot WAIT for life to shift back to normal after this whole process. :)

I agree that there language is vague, but this seems pretty clear:
A spouse or a child of an eligible B.C. resident may also be deemed a resident provided that an application for permanent residence status has been accepted for processing by Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC), and the application remains active.

Tough to argue that this means AOR, right?

All I know is that people here have been successful in getting coverage with AOR and the last 2 people that I spoke to at BC MSP (by phone) confirmed this information. Unfortunately, it seems like the luck of the draw with whoever processes your application.

Maybe you are right, maybe not. We got AIP together with DM, maybe that is the trick?
