No news yet???

Nope, I'm thinking either today or tomorrow. Patiently Anxiously waiting as well...

Hi,

Have been feeling very stressed since past few days......lots of things happening, and this wait. Getting nightmares too :(......

I need some suggestions,

1. My husband(my sponsor) has changed his job, are we supposed to notify this to CIC. Just don't want anymore delays.....

2. We wish to shift to a new apartment, but since have read many cases where CIC did not update the address and the letters were mailed to old address. We don't want any delays or confusions like these. Is there any sure shot way to make sure CIC has updated address, if yes please share, then only we will start looking for an apartment.

Thanks guys,

God Bless Us All!!

Hi! @God be with us
About your hubby's job change, i really dont think is relevant for CIC unless its in another province. Maybe someone else have a say in this? If you are really not sure, call cic :)

About moving... I have move 3 times since the beggining of the process (oh yeah!) and every single time i did the address update on website, then i called cic, and then i send a copy of my new lease by snail mail. Just to be 100% sure :)
Althought, just after calling, the address updated in e-case, so i really dont know if it was worth it to send the lease copy, but you know, better be sure! :)
They do have the right address (when i got aor was one address, then i move, got aip to another address, move again, got dm in my new permanent "im not moving anymore" address)
So I guess if you play safe like i did, you will have no problems! :)

Keep in touch!
Good luck and God bless

No, you don't need to inform them of a change in his employment. You can, but its not necessary.

If you do move I would suggest several things: (1) pay for Canada Post forwarding until you are done with the CIC process; (2) inform them in writing; (3) follow-up and make sure they updated the address; (4) make sure you explain to the Landlord what you need. Offer to pay them for their trouble if they need to forward anything - and ask them to tell the new tenant the same thing.

It sucks to hear but you should get new certificates asap.CIC seems to be strict on this plus putting an explanation letter for pilice clearance expired seems suspicious to CIC
Why would it seem suspicious to put an explanation letter?? That seems a strange comment….

CIC always advises to provide a letter of explanation for anything deviating from the norm.

We had to get police record clearances from the US, Spain and Dominican Rep. My husband will also require one from Costa Rica, but that is one of the countries listed for which you are asked to wait for instruction from CIC prior to obtaining them.

We had a very hard time getting all record checks while the others were still valid, (and while we had the funds to pay the Application also)and had to get the USA check done 4 times, the Spain one twice, and the DR one twice, until we finally had them all within the expiry time....EXCEPT that when we mailed everything in the USA one was 1 day past expired.

More than 2 CIC call center reps told me that if it is slightly past the expiration date, and since my husband cannot leave Canada to just provide a letter of explanation along with the record checks. If the Officer then determines that they require an updated one, they will contact you.

So that is what we did, we also sent copies of the expired ones to back up our explanation.

Hi Computergeek,

It's good that we don't need to inform about the change in his job. Since we are close to Getting AIP( really praying for it), I don't want to cause delays. But, now you have taken that load off me.....thanks

Will surely do as you guys suggested whenever we change the address. Having a lot parking issues here. Got 4 tickets in a week.

Thanks so much for guidance ......it really helps.

Then your husband did not file properly. Whether or not you have a SIN, he must declare his marital status and your income so that CRA can properly compute tax credits to which he is entitled.

If you need to file a tax return (because you are a deemed resident for Canadian tax purposes - and that has NOTHING to do with being a resident for immigration purposes) then you can obtain an ITN (which is a special kind of SIN that CRA issues). The forms are on the CRA website - as is the form for advising CRA that he is married.

Thank you for your answer. Altough it's very disturbing, because we asked a bookkeeper about it, and she said it's not possible to file me without a SIN number. Someone would be kind enough to explain me how could my husband include me? (His papers are ready but not filed yet.)
If I understand, I need to send them a T1261 (Application for a Canada Revenue Agency Individual Tax Number (ITN) for Non-Residents) and just put the ITN number in the place of the SIN number?
Thank you in advance.

Hey, I am not too sure how it works, but yes, my husband did file his taxes as married and my SIN number was put as 00000000. I have not taken any ITN from CRA.

I don't have a SIN or an ITN number, we put 000000000 for me on my wife's return. It worked out fine last year as well.

Hey I didn't mean to be negative you are right just call CIC and ask them if it's ok to provide them explanation letters concerning your situation. I'm not a 100 % sure

I forgot to say that since you have more then one police clearance certificate I think CIC will be ok with them as long they not expire much longer than 3 months but like I said before rather call them to be on the safe side

5hr3wd is right. You do not need a tax number to list on your husband's return. I assume you lived with your husband for all of 2013. He should inform CRA that his marital status has changed to married. You are actually supposed to do this after a couple months of the change in martial status. Your husband can claim you as a dependent which can give you a lot of tax savings.

Linden, God be with us, 5hr3wd, thank you for your answers!

I left Canada in December 2012, came back on February 14th, 2013, left again on June 12th, than came back and stayed since July 21th. So I was here for about 9 months, I don't know if it's good enough as living together in 2013. We married in December 2013.
